Calling SUPER SHOPPERS! Please HELP us find a Dining Table!

Our dream table is a live edge table with a mix of white modern chairs. I've looked online until I'm dizzy, so I need some fresh ideas and perspective. Our dining room redesign is on hold until I get a table ordered.

Considering the other projects we have going, it seems a live edge table is probably way out of budget. I would like to stay at $1000 or under, if that is at all possible. Plan B is to find a rustic or reclaimed wood top table, which will still mix well with modern chairs. Ideally it would seat eight, but we can make do with six if the budget necessitates.

I like a thick wood or wood slab tabletop. In terms of the legs, I'm open to wood or metal. The pics were of my (fleeting) dream table...

Thus far, I've looked at tables from the following sources:
    - Room & Board (over budget)
    - Restoration Hardware (over budget)
    - Crate and Barrel
    - CB2
    - All Modern
    - Craigslist
    - World Market

The only table I have found in budget that we sort of like, is at World Market. Here is a pic:

I don't think I'm a huge fan of the trestle design. Here is a quick rendering I did of the dining room with this table. Does it even work? I'm definitely second-guessing myself.

This one is from C&B. What I'm not a fan of is the thin tabletop...

    Here's another I like:

Do you know of any good discount furniture sites which would offer a similar aesthetic to the ones we like?

Try Ikea. You can overcoat the finish on some of their tables. The tables you picked out are all slab tops which are expensive, no way around it. If you want to fit in your budget, you are probably going to be looking at a thinner, much lighter weight product. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20242593/

Another option is to wait a year or two while the high fashion brands are reinterpreted by the budget brands.

BTW, a consignment store in an upmarket area may have what you are looking for, sooner or later.

I live in San Francisco, so the consignment store idea may work. Thanks!

Oh, I saw that one and had liked the pic. I think I'll stop by the store this week and check it out. Thanks for reminding me!

There are tons of great options you can find on etsy.com and they're well within your price range! Another idea which I have done in the past is buy a reclaimed piece of wood that you like from a salvage yard, and then find legs separately from online or an antique store and heave the two of them fused together! I did this for a small budget kitchen remodel and the clients are very happy with the end result.

I've never used etsy. Is it basically a collection of individual and small business stores?

Precisely. It is where small businesses and independent artists/artisans can sell their work from a trusted online "shop". I have purchased many things from the site and have never had an issue once. The quality is just as good as big brand stores but at a much better price. You're supporting a small business to boot!

I just found this one on sale at West Elm. DO you think it's too non-descript? The price is certainly right...

Try World Market!!!! Real wood, you can one that is rustic or not for around 300. I love my 12 year old table, it has survived two kids and four moves. No rings either with real wood from glass. Highly recommend

Don't know where you live, but this is similar to the raw/rough edge you are looking for (in Michigan).

    It's over $1000 - sorry.

That was the exact photo I saved for my dream table to seat 12+. I researched and found a couple of custom places near and far, but are pricey. I do see table that come kind of close every once in a while. ZGallerie has nice tables that might work around your price range. I stumbled across a guy that makes furniture with wood and metal. I showed him that pic and a couple others. It doesn't look the same but it is reclaimed wood about 4" thick and will seat 12. We are still working out details on the legs and had to fine tune the table, but we are paying $1500 w/o chairs. His company is Big Al's Heavy Metal Furniture in Brentwood, CA

We just had 2 live edge wood counters put into our kitchen. We went to the source - a sawmill. Picked out the exact pieces of wood we wanted. It was an amazing experience to see the day to day work of a sawmill. And the price was incredibly reasonable.

Not sure where you are, I'm in NJ, but if you can get to a sawmill, check it out. You can get exactly what you want and I'm sure they, or someone they know, can make you a table.

    Good luck.
