well i found this picture with a dark green and one with a yellow... im not sure about green now lol.

Lol after weeks of buying paint samples and looking at pictures I decided last night maybe green wasn't the way to go. I think I want to stick with the yellow for now but I want something darker than I have now. I have always liked a brighter room something happy. I'm always in my kitchen so I'd like it to be cheery lol do you have suggestions as to what yellow? Thank you for your comment

To get a good idea of what works best you need to paint a larger section of the wall near the countertop. If it was my house, I would tape off the top of the backsplash and under the cabinets, and paint a whole area my first choice. I'd do the same in another part of the kitchen with my second and third choices so I could get an idea of how the colors work together. I'd live with it for a few days to see how the light at night and in the morning impacts it, and to give myself a chance to mull it over.

My first choice would be the small swatch on the right side that is almost a green apple green. After that I'd go with the larger swatch that is a dark sage green. My living room, dining room and kitchen are that dark grayish green, and I absolutely LOVE it!! Greens are so calming.

I like green this is why I wanted to give it a try in the kitchen thank you for your suggestions. I'm going to give it one more chance. I don't want it to look too dark either.

Instead of painting larger swatches on your walls and having to paint over them later, I'd like to suggest buying a couple of pieces of white foam-core board or thick white poster board and painting them instead. They're large and you can tack them up and live with them for a while without having to repaint. You can even paint a few of them the same color and tack them on different walls of the room since the way the light hits the room's walls will make the same color appear lighter or darker even though it's the same paint. It's a good way to 'try before you buy,' or before you invest lots of time and money on painting.

And I like the yellow with the countertops! Great choice -- much better than the green. No matter what color, I think you should go with a light value. Yellow is really the only color to give the space life without competing with the countertops. I'd go with a buttery yellow, or even an ivory/cream color tinted yellow. Please post an update with what you finally decide! :D

Yellow is nice -- glad flair lighting found those pics. I painted my back hallway a color called Honey Bear. It's light and creamy, none of the weird tints or screaming yellow for me.

I too like the green with your countertop. The yellow looks like a fast food restaurant to me. Good luck!

The trick is to "read" the countertop color through a "value lens". If you look through a red colored glass, it helps determine that value, which is what a value lens does. You have a strong color on the countertop and if you select anything near, or at, that value, they will both try to dominate. Your cabinets are very light in tone, so if you have all this strong value on the counter and walls, they won't be harmonious with the rest of the kitchen. If you really like the yellow, select something that leans more to the gold (working with the cabinetry as your guide), and then think about doing a mosaic backsplash that incorporates the gold, red and cream. For the gold, think about coordinating with those curtains that are in the background, but don't go really dark gold, but a lighter tone.

If you want a change in countertops and budget is the issue, why not source a contractor that can spray the countertops with an epoxy? It may be an affordable way to change the look in your kitchen and bathrooms as well as update the look.

The top picture in this grouping is gorgeous. It's very close to the color I'm going to use in my den and dining area. Really leaves a lot of room for decorating.

I agree about a nice butter yellow. Is there a light yellow in your curtains to match a paint color. Take the curtain to the paint store & they can match it for you to sample.
