I agree. TILE it! There is such a small part that ISN'T tiled that it doesn't look right or balanced to me. The entire thing will be lovely....and by the way, GREAT choices on your tile, counters, and cabinets. I'd LOVE to have this kitchen. Also, we are in the middle of renovating my boyfriend's place and he has such a tiny bit of wall above the backsplash that we will be running the tile all the way up the wall too. It just makes sense, visually.

Gorgeous tile! Yes, go over the windows. Roman shades, measured and hung on the inside the window frame, would look nice and not require putting holes in the tile for a curtain rod. Congrats on your kitchen. It looks beautiful.

I agree with tiling the whole area...I think changing material would be a distraction; not an asset to the design. Love the tile choice!

Even before reading your comments, I felt the tiling looked incomplete. If you're concerned it's too busy next to the plain white cabinets, wait until you add your window treatments (a mid to deep tone natural woven, Roman blind would add a warm textural element to the room and balance the tile and cabinetry perfectly) and some counter accessories (including a greenery element) and you will likely love the finished look.

It looks incomplete because your hood is not installed yet. What is to the left of the double windows?

Definitely needs to be finished. What are you planning to do with the windows? What about a fabric in place of the tile above the windows...a color that will work with the rest of your kitchen.

I'm trying my best to make these decisions and look at as many pictures as I can but sometimes I look so much I confuse myself . I am leaning more towards completing the whole wall above the windows , I was just thinking MAYBE once that hood went up it would look more complete ? Here are a few pictures of what is to the left of the windows. There's a sliding door and that area will be our family room once it's complete .

It would help to see what is to the far left of the windows to see where the tile would stop

I love the colors btw! I agree it looks unfinished with or without the hood. If you install blinds up to the crown molding it would look great. It makes your windows look taller and you have the contrast of fabric/natural shades against the tile...beautiful. Not to mention it gives it a dramatic look but still clean. I love the picture from this link...

I think taking your Roman shades all the way up to the crown to cover the drywall would work if you don't want to continue your tile all the way over to the left wall.

I think it that tile looks right as it is. The tile up the wall behind the stove infers a chimney and the hood will confirm how right it looks. Sometimes, underplaying an element is a strong statement and although the tile selection is great, there can be too much of it. A backsplash is meant to protect where things might splash, and putting it over the window would not makes sense with that in mind. The window treatments will wrap it all up nicely, so don't be afraid to get those in place first before making that decision.

If I had that gorgeous tile, I'd put it on every bare wall! Lol. You have a perfect stopping point to the left of the double windows. Go for it. Did I say how much I love that tile?

Any thought to adding more molding above the windows?

i vote for finishing the tile up over the windows for a finished look. adding a blind of some sort would be like jewelry in your kitchen. its a beautiful kitchen. i'll bet you can't wait until it's all done!

Ideally I would have stopped the back splash at the start of the hood leaving the area above dry wall. Is that the actual hood in the second set of pics you posted? If it is at this point I would add painted matchstick blinds above the windows starting at the base of the crown moulding and not do more tile. Matchsticks are great in kitchens as they don't absorb smells and are easy to clean. If you do not want window coverings then I think to achieve a finished look you should tile the rest of the areas. As is the empty spaces are jarring.

Very pretty but it looks unfinished. The hood will look nice I'm sure, but the tile will still look unfinished. Make sure the marble is well sealed to protect from stove top splashes!

We tiled around our kitchen window and it looks wonderful!! Adds sooooo much more personality than not doing it. You'll absolutely LOVE it when it's done!

I agree with Sargent Pillsbury design...if you're going to do curtains or blinds just put them all the way up to the trim or ceiling. Tiling around he windows may make them look squatty or smaller. Holding the curtains up gives the illusion that your windows are larger. And it is cheaper than tile if you were going to do curtains anyway!

Did this in my kitchen with a very similar tile. We love it and get lots of compliments. We did add a slightly more ornate header to the window. With the subtle tones in the tile it does not feel busy, but actually very clean lined.

Please do not add draperies to these windows. They are a fire hazard as they would be too close to your cooktop. A valance at the top, a short cornice board would work well but nothing that comes down to the countertop. Honestly, I think the windows will do fine without any window treatments once you tile above them!

finish the job with tile all around it will look great. I would not put any window dressings in the kitchen they just get greasy and grimy. Your kitchen is pretty

we're going with tiles around the windows. I think the area around the windows is too small to leave as is. Nice Friday night job for me. We'll post pics when it's completed. I appreciate all the suggestions. Excellent!

That is a beautiful backsplash you have chosen there. I believe that you should, it will create a bit of drama since everything else is rather settle. Also Do NOT do drapery that will make it look off.

I say tile the entire wall, you could fit in a small tile design or a couple feature tiles above the windows to change it up.

How can you now continue the tile over the windows without it appearing to have vertical 'seams' where they piece in the additional tile?

Simple - i'm going to have to remove the 9 cut pieces at the end and continue from there.
