Like the couch between the windows, if you are planning on purchasing the cabinet for the wall on right. If leaving couch on that wall, will just need a console table under the pictures. Good luck with your rug and accessories.

I too like the couch on the window wall.I would put a wing chair to the left and right of the couch facing each other,then you could get a bench or an interesting opposite the couch.

I quickly breezed through the comments, and i'm not sure how much further you have progressed. One photo I noticed that you are seemingly picking all the same level of color. I think you need to ground your furniture with a larger rug that has more saturated and dark tones in it. Like others have said, do not be afraid to mix patterns! The valances look better straight, but they are so small on the windows which look even larger with the transom above. I agree with the suggestion of adding the gold pillows to the striped chairs (which are awesome, btw - love the nailheads!) Think about getting some more height in the room- add some life with plants. Large floor vase with branches, perhaps. Could you fit a narrow table under the four pictures? You really have some great pieces to work with!

I am really bummed on how the shades turned out. I chose not do hang drapes because there isn't much space next to the windows but I think I should give it a try.

I think you should separate those chairs a bit more, angled towards the sofa. Enough that you can walk between them...more inviting that way. I really like the pillows on the chairs, and the pictures on the wall! I tend to avoid window coverings entirely, assuming you have a nice view out those windows. Find the exact right rug...something oriental with greys and yellow...don't settle for good enough!

Just curious if you angled those chairs ever so slightly towards the sofa...leaving them where the pic above was taken. I may have missed it...what were your thoughts about end or coffee tables?

You can't see the entire space in the photo, but there isn't enough room to angle the chairs more. I have an old coffee table and end table that I pushed out of the way so could take a picture of what is staying in the room. I don't have a vision of what the coffee table and end tables should look like. I think I am afraid to pick something and make a mistake like with the shades. They don't add anything. :-(

I prefer the original arrangement with the sofa on the wall. I also like the shades much better with them unrelaxed.

Don't like the last layout, with the chairs opposite each other. I also liked the windows without the valances. I am a fan of end tables or accent tables, and I keep looking at your photos wanting to add some! I like your second to last photo, with the chairs across from the sofa, but slightly angled. A nice round wood table in between the chairs, perhaps? I think once you have a rug, the space will come together better. Good luck!

The way groveraxle has laid out the room is pretty nice (back to your original layout). The second layout with the gold patterned rug is my favorite.

Someone suggested the BM Pewter for your walls. From what I've seen on HOUZZ, it would be a great color for you.

I'm never afraid to mix woods in a room, so a wood coffee table would work. Or, perhaps a wrought iron base with a glass top?

I love the chairs so fun! and I think the sofa is pretty good too! I think you need some panels on the windows and of course the area rug. But color is something you need to be sure of ...so what colors do you like?

My daughter has a West Elm rug that would be perfect in your room. Unfortunately it seems to have been discontinued. It has a longish pile and is gray with a muted gold sweep across it, no real pattern. Also I really like the idea of a display cupboard between the windows.

With the sofa on the window wall, with end tables AND a table in between the chairs, you don't even need a coffee table. This layout feels great!

agree with first comment. to select rug with a design pulled from stripe and solid colors. for example this origin my or complements cold in striped wing chair plus adds pizzazz to hw. floor.

The nice thing about the way grover just showed your window treatments is that they do not take up wall space and your art can shine their alone instead. Love the tables and lamps under the window and again, you may be ok with just one lamp. Not sure about the light in the room at night. Simple table between the chairs as they do not want competition, either. You could put the display shelf where the canary is.

The couch framed on both sides with tables and lamps, makes is feel complete, vs couch on other wall being squeezed in. I think the window shades work relaxed and if you are still unhappy in months to come, you can redo, as I'm sure you are anxious to complete the room. If purchasing the black cabinet and with the black frames you have, maybe a darker carpet would be attractive. The suggestions to date have all been light..so just a thought. houzz=]

Yes, I have thought about putting a fireplace on the blank wall. I haven't found one that I like or that will fit.

I went to Pottery Barn to get a sample of the Perry rug that Groveraxle shows. They only had the Perry rug in small sizes so I brought home a sample of the Lila. The colors match the fabric perfectly and they have it in 9 b 12 so I put masking tape down on the floor to see how it would fit. I don't know it the colors come through in the photo so you need to trust me on the color. The swatch in the photo is the Lila rug. I think it will fit with two end table and a coffee table. Please note: I put the tables and lamp from the family room in here to see how their size works in this space. They are not staying! Please check out the Lila and let me know what you think. Will it be too busy?

I made the shades roman shades again so I have masking tape on them to train them to stay in place. I will take the tape off in a day or two.

I agree a fireplace would be perfect in the space, maybe shabby chic white to avoid clashing with the bold prints and colors that already exist here. All these lamps look good. Lamp and table together should be between 58 - 64" tall. You will have to measure to see what height works. Abbyjean can attest to the fact that I've been known to get the lamps too tall.

I like the shades very much, definitely unrelaxed! I think the 4 square art needs 2" more of separation between each. I think most people get lamps too short!!! If your end tables are about 24" tall, I like a 32" lamp. I think an 8x10 rug would be the best size for your room. I think 9x12 is a tad too big.

By the way, I love the sofa and chairs you've bought!

Your couch and chairs have a beautiful shape. In my view, you are spoiling the lines with too many pillows. The fuzzy white ones are too big and too informal in style for your couch.

LOL grover! Yeah, a lamp can be too tall, but don't you think 90% of the rooms where people post just looking for overall suggestions, the lamps are too short? Before Houzz, I think every lamp I had in every room was too small. It kind of annoys me that stores (West Elm comes to mind) typically only sell lamps in the 25" range. A lamp too small just ruins the look of a sophisticated room. OK, I know it's my pet peeve and many don't agree:)))))

As an artist, I would use a painting that ties the colors of the room together and use a huge oversized painting on that wall if you don't plan to put a piece of furniture on that wall. Yes, I ordered it in the 9 x 12. They don't have it in 8 x 10. I hope it isn't too big. I have played around with fitting an 8 x 10 in the room and is is difficult to make it work so I am hoping when I get the 9 x 12 I will be happy with it.

Alicia - I was hoping my daughter would make a painting for me before she went back to school, so instead I framed my daughters' pictures and put them up. I love the idea of having her art on the wall. I think the girls pictures should be moved to the hallway because then I can add my son's senior pictures when he is a senior.

Here are the gracie side table from Ethan Allen. It is 24 inches square and 26.5 high. My windows are 35 inches wide. I was thinking of putting a table and lamp on either side of the sofa as groveraxle has shown. The Lola lamp is 30 inches high. What do you think?

Let's take a look, shall we? The tables are pretty much to scale. The lamps are a little harder, but they should be close. Looks good to me. (Love those tables, BTW.)

Ann - I agree we need to space out the photos or replace them with art. My daughter comes home tomorrow so maybe she will create something beautiful for that space.

Here is a photo of the chairs moved to a different position. I think they fit better on the rug this way. I haven't bought the end tables and lamps yet becauseI am afraid to commit to them before I pick the coffee table. I did find this bench at Pottery Barn that I think would be nice across from the sofa with a coffee table in-between or could I use the bench as a coffee table? I have been thinking that the coffee table should be glass but idk. Please let me know what you think.

When I first bought the rug we had the chairs across from the sofa. I moved them across from each other because it made the rug look too big. Only the sofa, chairs, and rug are staying in the room. Please try to look past the other stuff.

I wouldn't use the bench as a coffee table and I like your idea of a glass coffee table. I think the pottery barn Tanner could look great in your room. It comes in various sizes and shapes but maybe round for your room? The rug looks great! Not sure about the upholstered bench in the room????

I like the furniture arrangement as you have it now with the chairs facing each other.

I think your room needs to be fuller! You have a lot of volume so I found this room that has some great pieces that you could imitate to fill the room.

This room has some things that you could add to your room.

Pair of smaller upholstered chairs to balance the large wing chairs, small bunching tables for a cocktail table, tiny foot stool, large tall dresser or armoire for height, simple lamps, cool modern pharmacy floor lamps next to the big wing chairs.

Note nice floor lamps! And a plant would not be amiss, either. Oh here is a sisal rug so you can get a feel for that!
