can you put up a picture standing at the other end of the room by the doors, it will be helpfull and from the kitchen looking at the bookcase.

I'm getting rid of the tv sonsole for sure. And plan to put the flat screen on the left side of the room. From ther on I'm lost.

I wouldn't get rid of the sofa if it's in good shape. I would get rid of the entertainment center and replace it with a long console under your new flat screen. I would get a new rug and curtains, and put interesting art over the sofa.

I just had a look at your ideabook for TV rooms and see you're drawn to contemporary looks. Your sofa and coffee table can certainly work in a contemporary setting. Give me a bit of time and a glass of wine, and let's see what I can do.

I'd start by getting some floor and table lights, and not use the overhead lights, which are very stark. Unless you live in a very dusty area (like New Mexico) I would replace the rug with a much bigger one, to soften the effect of all the tile. I'd also think about a color scheme to add interest. The brown, gray, and white without some other colors to liven them up, make it more drab. If the couch is comfy I don't see why you'd have to change it--I'd spend the money elsewhere. It looks like it could go with a lot of different color schemes.

I like the idea of getting a bigger rug!!!

Instead of looking into this room, which (to me) says 'welcome to my sliding doors', I would move the couch in front of it, leaving room to walk behind and out, of course. Closing the drapes and having the couch in front would give it a much warmer feel when walking in. Take the TV armoire and move it to the wall where the bookcase is, and angle it 'out' away from the wall. YES..it is fine to do this! Put your TV tables behind the armoire. Lose the table with the phone. IF you have to have a phone in there, cordless ones are a dime a dozen now. Hide the base somewhere and if you are expecting a call, or want the phone near you, place it on the shelf of your coffee table, so you don't have to get up and miss your show while running to get it. This is the 'fast budget fix' suggestion. I would also 'store' your pictures on the wall, and replace with a large mirror, or one large piece of artwork.

how about color. as you look at rugs, think of your sofa and also think I want the rug to supply me with another brighter color - one I might even paint a wall.

A few looks for you. All rugs from West Elm, both cabinets from Crate and Barrel, art is a Kandinsky print from art.com. I kept your drapes because it looks like they need to be functional, but I lengthened them, much easier to do in Photoshop than in real life.

I didn't actually finish the room. You could probably use a side chair and table, and at least one lamp. Speaking of lighting, I got rid of the harsh ceiling lighting and installed recessed lights. (A diy if you're handy.)

On the left side of this room, is the kitchen. There is a seating station, right now the stools are on the side of tv room, want to send them to the other side (kitchen) and that's why I wantes to place the flat screen, on the left side of the room. You can see one of the stool on the first picture.

You certainly could flip the TV and seating, but then your sectional wouldn't work. I don't see how the stools interfere with the arrangement you have now.

Well, all the same principles apply, except now you need a new couch. A good enough excuse to get one you really love. Just please don't make it dark brown leather. Gray or tan or cream or red...yes, go wild and crazy...live it up!
