The fireplace

I don't understand the placement of the fireplace. It appears that it is down the hall so that nothing can be placed in front of it. Is that just an optical illusion from the vantage point of this photo, or is there a reason that is where it is? Thanks.

The fireplace is in the original location of the home, built in 1900's. Both windows were new dormers that were added onto the home to get a larger sitting area in the master bedroom. Yes, it is a bit odd, but the room is very unique in it's shape and the client loved the quirky nature of the layout.
