I wouldn't spend any money to change out your counters. Changing the flooring would have a MUCH higher priority.

The laminate counter top has to go. The flooring goes through most of the main level, so changing it right now is not an option. I had a Realtor and decorator come through who said the floor was great and not to change it, because it is really neutral. Here is a better pic of the floor.

The Corian counter is a good neutral. The floor is not. Too much pinks and blues. It's setting the tones for the whole space.

Because you're keeping the floor, would you consider looking at soapstone for counters? I'm thinking the soft, deep effect might work wonders. The tile isn't coming across well in the pictures, but I know how monitors, etc... can change things.

And that is what will happen when you paint the cabinets white. Which is why the floor should be the prority over the Corian counter. Right now, the pink cabinets is the dominant element in the room, and it's fooling the eye into not really seeing the pink in the floor. Remove the pink cabinets from the equation, and all you will see is the pink and blue in the floor, shouting at you.

Thanks for the photo with white paper. It looks like the tiles are a concrete gray. If you have an extra tile, take it with you to pick out your countertop, backsplash and paint. If not, pick up a bunch of gray paint chips, find the right match, and throw out the rest. Then take the paint chip with you to the countertop store.

Thanks Apple_pie It definitely has grey in it. We don't have any extra tiles (they were here when we moved in) Will find some paint chips and play around with that. In terms of the white cabinets, now I'm worried about the floor looking pink.

Stop worrying about the little pinkish hue and just play off the gray I think if you go pretty simple and plain in the counter you can add some color and bling with the backsplash in some really great mosaic tileswith either of tese you could add either blue or red accents in the space for some pop.

I was just wandering around and realized all my doors are white and the tile doesnt look pink up against them. Likely because the walls are all BM Thunder so the grey is enhanced. I love that backsplash with the red in it!

I am not minding the floor so much. Especially if it is all over the house and the rest is not up to be re floored.

I am looking at the black stove and microwave. If you can upgrade them, obviously go with stainless but look into a slide-in range. It will modernize the look a lot and make your new counters and backsplash look great.

Playing up the grey as mentioned before would be a good idea. Maybe some granite like this and medium grey glass tile subways.

We have a similar problem with tile at our house (lots of tile, giving off a pinkish hue) but our solution is to pick up on the gray in the tile and paint the cabinets gray. Also with the tile being somewhat light, a darker colour cabinet will provide contrast. Haven't done it yet but that is what we are thinking.

The picture above shows it now. Countertop, sink, painted the cupboards and added thee hardware.

I would begin with matching appliances (stainless). To me, the cabinets seem fine. If you must change them, I would consider having the cabinets glazed but definitely would not pant them white. White cabinets with your floor will create a pastel, nursery effect. I understand the flooring is not necessarily your choice, but it looks fine. I would change countertops.

Leave the counter alone and get a great backsplash and choose a fun paint!

Me too. it looks really great. You did an excellent job. The stove and microwave look so much uglier now. LOL. Did you just put up the blinds or were they already there? Reason, I ask is that a roman shade with broad white and dark blue or dark green/grey awning stripes would look really good there.

Very nice job! Floor looks great now. I'm just seeing this dilemma for the first time and near the top when some were saying the floor wasn't working, I figured it could work just fine and it all looks great now!
