Add a bit of color and incorporate some flower beds with bright colors. You could also create a walkway to the front entrance with decorative patio stones, however, this looks like a driveway too so you'd have to keep them out of the vehicle pathway. Some decorative solar lighting along the perimeter would also spruce things up a bit and make it safer at night. A rock water feature would also be a great addition and would blend in with the surrounding area quite nicely.

If you get really adventurous, you could replace the driveway with pavers. That is always lovely.

This will add interesting texture and color and use succulents on outer edge. Also,add lighting up the driveway on both sides. Paint the front door a burnt orange or brick red. The planting area to the left of he door needs to be cleaned up and add succulents to edge. Another idea is window boxes with bright colors.

I think you need to brighten the front entry. Paint or stain the door a lighter color clear a little bit of the flowers on the left of the entryway to visual open the walkway up to the door and then add a door bucket with some color to your front door to tie into the landscaping. The rest of it looks lovely.

jazzing is to be impressive a little homework goes along way, check around in your area for plants and flowers you like.Be ready to know what blooms and expect rip some plantings out to stay in tune with the seasons in your area, It seems to me that nice flowers in your yard...make people happy that come to your home

You could put several pots of annuals around the front door area and even place them in your flower beds to add more color. I have put a vine that climbs above the garage door. You can purchase fragrant flowering vines, trumpet vine etc.

I would rip out some of the large bushes/palms near the house. Since the home has what seems to be a relatively low profile I would make it all about color and a few distinct topiaries and add large italian olive jars here and there. It has a cottagey feel that I would play of of. I am not sure what the walkway is made of but if it is pea gravel then I LOVE IT. Maybe just regrade it to maintain that European feel. If you wanted you could paint the front door a brighter color to make it pop more.

Removing the shrubs from the front mound, tiering the area and adding a dry pebble creek outlined with larger rocks and small California native plants and a stylist wooden gate across the driveway may update the look of the property.

the information is a bit scanty: Looks to be a southern elevation - morning time, How do you want to use this space? How much maintenance are you willing to dedicate resources for? How long do you plan to live here? These are but a few primary questions? Off the cuff: Directional elements in pavement - simple add of color on existing - sculptural pieces - lighting at night(LED with solar power source) the spiky desert plant and tree against it are too close and too much of same height - judging from photo - and too much in the same plane get rid of both unless they have sentimental value and re-evaluate. If the entrance is always this obscure no matter what the viewpoint you need to clarify the sight lines to it - both for aesthetic as well as security reasons.

Your home & yard are lovely, doesn't need much, really. Maybe a formal pave job - brick? Or a bolder house paint color? Would create a little separation, the house from the landscaping. One thing I'd do for sure, jmo, is move the yucca to another place in the yard & replace it w/ a low rock or boulder. Softer looking & works a little nicer with the creeping rock garden plants you have in place. Plus more of your home would show from this photo viewpoint.

Your plants are fine. Keep doing what you are doing. I think the problem is the color. Its too neutral. You want your house to invite - bring it to life. Since I don't know you - think about the best colors. See if they fit and then paint it. Dark doors are forbidding even if they are wood tone. In this case,the pop come is the color of your home and front door, not pavers or addtional landscaping. Hope this helps.

I would suggest removing some of the non natives and replacing them with CA native plants as they will require less water and maintenance. For example you can use Bountiful Seaside Daisy in lei of the purple plant. You can also add some Cleveland Sage to your garden that will add a very nice texture and fragrance to your garden.

I suggest painting your front door to draw your eye in..right now its very hard to see

Id like to see a darker paint color on the siding (maybe even paint the brick). A new paver material as others have suggested would make the driveway less dominant and If you really want a change consider a vertical planting element like a bamboo (but be aware that the roots can be extremely invasive so talk to a plant expert like a landscape architect) which would work nicely as a contrast to the very horizontal form of the house.
