You need an area rug with some color and the sofas look like leather, are they. Lower the art wotk on the wall to have the center at eye level.and also centered over the sofa. Use the colors from the rug for some pillows and you need to hang the other art work. The bookshelf does not appear to be in the right spot I would move it and hang that art work there same level as the other one. I would put the sofa by the low wall perpendicular to the other one so it would be facing the windo and the T.V. and move the coffee table so it can actually be used by both sofasand you need a couple of lamps and end tables .

Hi, if your family does not want you to permanently change the sofas, I would seriously look into purchasing slipcovers for them. They are an economical and temporary fix. Leather (sofas appear to be leather) certainly has its' place in a home, but in this room it is lending a very cold feel to this room. A fabric slipcover would certainly soften the room, chosen in a neutral color and bring in color, pulled from your artwork, with accent pillows and accessories. It appears you have some red in the room, you can build upon that color. An area rug would pull all of your elements together and, I would move the large sofa to facing the window and create a more cozy feel with the furniture.

So as not to incur too much expense, I think they are fine the way they are. Just need some furniture re-arranging and a few accessories. I would move your two seater couch to face the window. Side table can now be used from both couches. Place single chair where the 2 seater was. Place tv flat against the wall with the window and centre the bookcase on the other wall and rearrange items to be more visually appealing. Lower the picture above couch (a lot). Look for a colorful area rug, and like colored pillows on couch. Think about a mix of really bright colors. Look for odd pieces/antique rug in second hand shops or antique markets, as you will need a lamp for side table and accessories on coffee and side table. It will be fun. Good luck.
