Choosing paint colors can seem intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. The trick is to choose a color palette first. This will help direct your paint color choice, as well as any other accent colors you may want to add. There are four common color schemes you can choose from. All very different, these color schemes can help you create the look you're going for. Here's a brief break-down:

A monochromatic color scheme uses tint and shades of the same color. The variance of the colors you use will create drama and keep things calm. For example, a charcoal sofa, soft gray rug and light gray walls will be both subtle and pleasing to the eye. Balance the room by repeating the colors in your accents.

An analogous color scheme uses 3 adjacent colors on the color wheel. Is your sofa cream? Use yellow on a chair and choose pumpkin for the wall.

A triad color scheme is 3 colors equally spaced on the color wheel. Pick your favorite color to use as the dominant color. Choose a secondary color to use a little less, and then choose a third as an accent for "pop".

Lastly, a complementary color scheme is two colors opposite each other on the color wheel. These can be used equally or one can dominate. It's really your preference!
