I am repainting my new townhouse, and would like to brighten it up significantly. Because of the layout, with one common area extending from the 1st and 3rd floors (all travertine, including the baseboard) to the main floor (dark wood) the new paint needs to match 1) both these floors, 2) the junctions between the trim and travertine baseboard, 3) white cabinets and plantation shutters, and 4) yellowish granite counters.

I will be adding crown molding and thicker baseboard on the main floor. For paint my preferences, but I'm open to change, are: A) fairly light wall color, B) trim color that maintains contrast, and C) avoid yellow or green tones on walls (my preference is something neutral).

The most prominent furniture in the living room will probably be a red leather sofa/loveseat combo (I already own the sofa, and would add the loveseat).

The painter suggested off-white trim to go better with the travertine, but I'm worried this will clash with the cabinets/plantation shutters, and contrast less with the walls.

I'm attaching pictures of the 1st floor bonus room, the 2nd floor living room, the kitchen (open to the living room), and the sofa.

Any thoughts on what would look good here? Any other decorating tips as we furnish the living room? We at least need a dining room table (between kitchen and living room area) and some additional chairs and a coffee table in the living room.
