We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel and I always thought I would add a single pendant light over our small kitchen window above the sink (window is about 2.5 feet by 3.5 feet) but my contractor is highly recommending a recessed light instead. I understand the concern about height but I could place this in a way that it would hang only over the upper half of the window and it would not be right in my tall husband's face. He thinks the light there would still be distracting and things recessed is a better choice too. Attached is a picture of our current demo.

My question is -- which is better with such a small window AND wouldn't the room look weird without a light fixture hanging down somewhere? The rest of our lights will be recessed but I wanted a pendant for visual interest. There is no island in my small kitchen so the window is the only possible place. Thanks!
