We recently updated our new to us 70's kitchen and had them profesionally sprayed the color grey-Fieldstone by benjamin moore which I copied from several blogs of some georgeous kitchens and they look amazing we have tropical brown granite for counters. Good luck!

Have it sprayed by a professional . expresso or dark cherry. I think anything in the light color will not cover the natural grain of the wood.

I absolutely love the color of the cabinets the way they are. We just re-did our kitchen a few years ago and we did Natural Cherry cabinetry with a chocolate glaze and similar dark granite with gray and beige running through it. It's beautiful. The warm reddish tones of the wood cabinetry and the dark granite are a nice contrast. If your cabinets were really old I could see painting them, but they look brand new! There won't be any going back once you paint them, Good Luck!

I think they'll look fabulous - seriously. I've been wanting to do this with a house we purchased that has really ugly cherry cabs that are dark. Please post a pic when you're done!

Hi Designstatements, it's a matter of finding the shade of color that you like. I would place large painted samples in your kitchen and see how the color changes throughout the day.

Have you seen Rust-Oleum's Cabinet Transformations? I saw this product at Lowe's and it's very impressive, the finish is great. There's a two or three step process, depending on if you glaze over the paint. They have a great selection of colors and for the green-gray you might like Potter's Wheel, Bay Leaf or River Birch. My best friend in New Caanan,CT just painted her kitchen, it looked just like yours even the light fixture!
She painted the cabinets white and changes out the backsplash to carrera marble subway tile, it looks amazing w the black countertop.
The island is where she found a beautiful greenish/grey color and painted the entire island.

We have a 15-20 year old house with stained kitchen cabinets. I hated them! I painted them a bright white, and it really brightened up our kitchen. Next up is new counter tops.

As far as the backsplash goes, they have a really nice glass tile in a muted green with grey's I do believe at Home Depot. I'm sure you can find something similar, but I've seen the glass tile and it really looks nice, it's kind of like adding a beautiful piece of jewlery to an outfit. Your cabinets look beautiful by the way, I have similar ones in my kitchen, but if you are hesitant about painting entire kitchen, maybe start with the island first. Sometimes the contrast between wood and painted surfaces works really well. Even doing like a greenish/grey, that may work. I would, however, experiment on an oak piece before taking on the entire kitchen. You don't want to start something and then realize you don't like it.
