Just moved in to a house from very small apartment = basically no furniture! Currently, we have an extremely tight budget. We already have a dark brown sofa and we are going to receive a reclining loveseat (not sure the dimensions of that piece). I am thinking the sofa should go in the living room and the loveseat will go better in the family room. I am open to covering/reupholstering the sofa so it can work in the living room. The coffee table can either stay or move to the family room -I'm not married to it being in the living room. I'm just worried about the color the sofa should be (walls and carpet are so neutral) and what the layout of the room should be. I was thinking of trying to find two chairs to add to the living room; second hand ones that can be re-covered in fun fabric (we're under 30 yrs old so I don't want a space that will seem too "old" or old-fashioned).
Our home is a split-level built in '87. The living room is 12' x 14'; the bay window is 8'(outside edges of trim); the opening to the dining area is 9'9". The sofa we already have (currently in the family room) is 80"W x 40"D and the coffee table is 46.5"W x 23.25"D x 15"H. Thanks for all in-put in advance! (Sofa photo to follow in comments)
