Need input on dark crown molding and mantel

Our house has lots of dark woodwork through out the living room, dining room and entry. I would like to paint it white to lighten the space. I am getting mixed feedback. Some are saying this will be a mistake giving its historic appeal. Would love some input.

Keep the woodwork as is - beautiful. Will TV go above mantel? Style the cabinets with 1/3 books, 1/3 decor items and 1/3 open space. Hang large art on walls above cabs. Rethink the window treatments - that's where you need to invest.

The style of the woodwork around the fireplace is quite striking, I believe. If an expert has told you it has historical value, i would not consider painting it. You could remove the bookcases from the sides to unclutter the area and put in some lighter pieces.
