The house may look too naked without shutters...I like them. Take the photo ( a couple of copies of it) and color the shutters white, dark green, maybe even burgundy and see if you like a different color.

Shutters in general aren't terrible for your house. These, however, look bad because they're not sizzled correctly. Shutters should appear to be operative and be big enough to cover the entire window if they were closed even if they are decorative. Take the shutters down since you have to, see what the house looks like without-might be ok-and if you decide you do want shutters again make sure they are the right size this time around.

I think that the shutters suit your home very well. They are a nice accent to the brickwork, and and interest to the windows. Since they are deteriorating, when you remove them try different size/configuration ideas in cardboard first to get a feel for how modifications to existing size would work. You can also paint the cardboard templates the various colors you are considering to finalize that question as well. Please keep us posted on your progress.

I like the look of your house with shutters. If you have to replace them post a picture without the shutters, I am sure we all be happy to make a comment.

The existing shutters are only about 1/3 too small, so if you found correctly sized ones it shouldn't really affect the overall composition of the house too much.
