Most do have a minimum retainer to proceed with work. It's not cost effecive to work in 15 minute increments. When I as acticve, my minimum was $500. That bought you 4 hours of time, usually in 2 meetings, plus some research from me. Which meant that you had to be organized and focused to use that time wisely. The projects that you describe would be enough to meet most designers minimums if you did them at one time. The drape fabric search alone would be a couple of hours if you wanted to be involved. Less if you agreed to let me present you with a couple of choices from which to pick and used my custom drapist.

eden, check out this article on hiring a designer, and especially the comments. My comment about a statement on the size of a project generated some discussion with a few pros chiming in. You might contact a few of them that specialize in drapes and the like and see if they can help you. You should be able to send them a message through Houzz's message system.

@SophiaDesigns: I emailed and tried contacting you, with no response. This is the cause of most of my frustration, and the reason I initially posted the question. Many designers on Houzz say the will help with "anything needed" or are willing to take on small projects, but when actually approached with a small project find it beneath them or not worth their time.
