Mantle makeover

I have a large great room with knotty pine walls and a brick fireplace that needs help. I have a bridal shower next week.

I guess you are looking for a quick fix. See picture - add a large mirror and only place one or two larger accessories on mantle. To the right of the firepalce, remove the small pictures and add the art that was over the fireplace. To try and hide the wooden door on the left of the fireplace, place a copper pail and fill with birch logs, etc. houzz=

It's very cute. Would you consider painting the brick? It looks a bit heavy with the wood walls and the dark brick. There are tons of gorgeous pics on here of before and after painted brick fire places.

I would love to get ideas of colors to paint it. I totally agree with how dark it is but just don't know where to begin. Thanks for any ideas and suggestions.

for a quick fix, i would try just changing the color of the shelf. Something that goes with the interior of the room or a contrasting color. Something to make it pop.

Thank you for your suggestions. Long term do you suggest painting the brick? The Mantle is a beautiful piece of mahogany and not sure I want to paint it. I love the idea of the copper pail hiding the door

I love white brick. This is a pic of a fireplace we painted in our dining room. What other colors do you have in the room?

You could consider whitewashing and sanding so some of the brick shows through, which will be less of a contrast with the dark panelling. If you go pure white, you may end up wanting to paint the beams and panelling as well. Try to find pictures of white fireplaces and dark panelling before you decide.[houzz=

That was my thought too about pure white. It has a nice cabin feel and want to keep it but update the brick and mantle design.
