I wouldn't mind a motor home, as long as there was a head and a decent galley. Not sure if that is the correct terminology, but that's what they are called on a boat.

Love the cozy cabin in the woods. Wouldn't mind living like this full time... Minimal things, max relaxation... less to clean and fuss over. I can smell that fresh pine scent just thinking about it...and how about the crackling fire outside your door and some marshmallows toasting on a wire...stick... or anything makeshift you find on the forest ground. Talk about getting back to basics. Gather some leaves, wild flowers to put in a tin can on your table, lovely and free. (Free is one of my favourite words in the English dictionary btw)

Depends on the time of year.

My husband is an avid tent camper and it's the one thing we are complete opposites on. I just loathe the whole concept! How can you relax and have a good time when you are dealing with outdoor peeing/showering (if any), bugs and mosquitos, uncomfortable sleeping surfaces and no air conditioning/heating!!!!!!!!! no no! give me a cozy cabin in the woods, preferably one that i can ski out of, with a warm fireplace, super soft bed with an extra thick duvet, and a clean, indoor bathroom!!!

You can cuddle up in a king size sleeping bag ;)

My mom is turning 90 in September and my sister and I took her out to South Dakota and Colorado in July as her birthday gift. She said she would camp if we wanted, which meant sleeping in a tent like we always did. We opted for cabins and what a great way to go when the wind picked up and the rain came down. Still close to nature but with a nice roof over our heads. It was a great trip.

Different camping stages for different ages! Whatever gets you outdoors which is the whole idea. Bad back made us go from backpacking to car camping to a cabin. But now havea pop up. Gets us outdoors more than in a cabin, but up off ground.

Cabins are always a luxury when camping. Here is a clock work studio we built for a client a few years ago.

I used to backpack, now, being married to a packer, my mule, his horse & our string is the way to go. I told him he can never do better for a gift than my bthday mule-i jumped & down w/excitment when I got him so, don't bother trying.

I spent many family vacations camping and it was fun when I was a kid, but as I grew older I decided it wasn't for me. I told my parents, "when I grow up I am going to stay in a hotel when I go on vacation". My dad laughed and said, "well you better go to college and get a good job", which I did. Now I stay in hotels. No more camping for me. It doesn't have to be a fancy hotel, but I need a comfy bed and a hot shower free of spiders.

Somewhere with hot running water and a w.c. within 25 yards, a fire for cold evenings and coffee-making facilities. The rest is negotiable.

When we were younger we took our son tent camping every summer to a different national park. He has such funny memories that I am glad we did it but now I am 70 and have arthritis so my idea of camping is the Couer d Alene resort with room service. But I do cherish those days of pitching tent,fishing, building a fire. Today is Mother's day. and I would do all those camping days over again even though I always returned home exhausted.

For me camping is a hotel without a pool. I hate camping, even as a child I hated camping. My brothers loved it. My Mom was the greatest at it. My Dad and I were miserable. I'd rather stay home with the lights off and pretend.

My back thanks me when I don't sleep in a tent. Cabin is the way to go. You're still surrounded by nature, but a bit more comfortable.

camping falls into the 'never in my lifetime' category. my husband camped as a kid and he has this crazed idea that some day he'll get me into a rented RV and we'll go out west and look at national parks and i just say nope you can save that treat for your second wife.

my few ventures into camping were so horrible, that such torture should not be discussed in polite company. The lowest i would go was a cabin.

Now, the cleaning smells in hotel rooms are so bad I can not breathe. we are thinking of getting a cramper, so the air is always controlled.

@Have Fun, I might maybe agree to a camper if it has full facilities. Such as bathroom with flusher and shower. Kitchen with stove and HVAC. The idea of it being all my own things never used by god know who does appeal to me. We have to travel often and I'll admit to being picky about it. Traveling in a wheelchair is a challenge anyway. Traveling in a wheelchair with a 70 lb service dog is a double challenge. Especially in some of the unenlightened areas we've been lately. So a camper, or cramper love that. Could be a good investment in the long run.

Pop-up camper is the way to go! You do not have to sleep on the ground and it's so much easier to set up than having to pitch a tent. You still get the camping experience without taking something that's too much like your house to camp out in. We had a pop-up camper that we purchased from my parents when the kids were young for $100.00! You can't do any better than that unless you are given a camper.

And i agree totally rolling. must be able to cook, must have an ac, our own installed bed, a toilet, a shower. they are all ditching them because of the price of gas. don't know where to get the funds, but start saving the pennies? maybe come up with something. don't need a giant one anyway.

Have fun--We always camped in state parks that had electric on each camp site. We always had electric lights along with the light from our Coleman lantern. I have a Coleman stove with 3 burners that also came with a stand and an oven. I made homemade biscuits in that oven and they turned out great. We had so much fun with the kids when we went camping.

ok.... great, not sure they have enough electric for me. your kinda camping is the type that was a night mare for me. i am glad you enjoyed it though. son and both hubbies have too. guess it is cause i grew up with all girls, not our thing.

Have Fun are you able to use an oxygen converter ? If so it would give you so much more freedom and most insurance companies will pay for them now. I agree though it has to have more than a Coleman. I want real cooking and real bathroom. No bucket with a seat or open fire cooking. I grew up doing it Bev's way, hated it.

A tent is the only way to REALLY and TRULY camp. The other ways aren't camping :)

Mandee, good thing the two of us are tough. that is one of those comments where the person gets beat up for being insensitive to the handicapped. maybe a little more thought?

@Have Fun, that's too bad. I know it helped my Gran when she had one. I had to use O2 the last time I had pneumonia , I was terrified that it was going to become permanent. One of the reasons for moving to lower ground. I hope I didn't upset you asking.

Imagine what it was like for the middle eastern refugees walking and camping through a European Winter. Some photos showed old people in wheelchairs.

no rolling, tis the reason i tell because people don't know. even professionals are bad about it. everyone looks at me, thinks copd or lung cancer, she smoked herself into an early grave. they look at chest xrays, say oh, she had another heart attack. no, it is pneumonia. so share with the world.

Good. I've been amazed since very young how little the medical community truly knows and how much they just guess. I realize now what your last post was saying. HF, you are a real trooper! You have definitely been dealt a really bad hand but you continue to play the game, and with a great sense of humour.

As far as camping goes, I don't do it any more. When I was first married and the kids were younger, we camped quite often. Two kids, hubby, me and a beagle all in one small tent. The kids and beagle loved it. We would go for a whole week like that, rain or shine....usually rain. Now, it's hotels for me all the way!

i like the way you roll roxsy! i love that little round gold fish! I did ground camping once with cub scouts thought it was important for my son. ughh! dirty smelly, caught a tick, layed on a root that i could not feel til i got up.

Camping for me is a super 8.

My favorite way to camp is in a hotel -- with room service.

Camp like a champ. Tap all the opportunities to make your camping adventurous. Load your cooler with ice cubes, food and drinks. A cool comfy base camp would be perfect for day hikes. Comfort should be a top priority for your safe haven (tent). beware of dead trees and if you are a walk-in, be sure to survey the landscape. Choose campgrounds with enough tree cover, know the wind direction, and determine where the sun will rise and set.

When it comes to kids, exercise, Fun and new friends are the major attractions of summer camps. Summer camps aid in learning and education, with lots of activities like walking, team sports, playing with other kids. Health through exercise. Encourage kids to take part in after school sports programs

Another interesting option would be an RV, being comfortable and flexible. Good if you own one. Renting would be costly.

You should consider the three modes of road-travel trip 1) own car and stay in hotel 2) own a small RV 3) renting a small RV.

For a traditional driving vacation, use your own car, stay in hotels, and dine out.

Owning a small RV would be the cheapest mode. Never take on debt to finance vacations or travel costs. Owning a small RV is a clear winner as it would let you travel for only 60-70% of traditional car plus hotel cost.

While taking your kids along hit the gorgeous lookout area to ogle the rivers and mountains, the forested trails and kids' jungle gym.

If you'd like to see the backcountry try a backcountry pack trip. You just need your clothes and sleeping bag, with air mattress. Tents already up and there's someone to do the cooking. If you aren't a rider don't worry, the horses are trained for people like you. You can lay around camp. or go for day rides if you're just going to one spot. Or, you can move every day. Hubby spent years packing people from Mammoth to Yosemite (he was born in Yosemite) that's a 6 or 7 day trip, cook included.

Not able to backpack any longer I'm still able to go. I'm his wrangler.
