Paint a checker board pattern in centre and boarder in black and leave the rest of the table as is. Could add brass accents to corners. If rest of table is not in good condition, paint everything black. Then see if chairs will work. If not, you could paint them black as well. Fabric would still work. You could also paint the top same color as chairs and base as is or black.[houzz=]

One of our staff was having the same dilemma when purchasing a table for her new home. She grabbed some chalkboard paint from Michael's (about $13 for the can), and some chalk paint by CeCe Caldwell. Since her and her boyfriend host many board game nights for their friends, this was the perfect solution to the problem.

She painted three layers of chalkboard paint on the top, ensuring that each coat dried thoroughly before adding the next one. She then used CeCe Caldwell chalk paint in Santa Fe Turquoise and Pittsburgh Gray to complete the legs. This is a dark gray, but if you want to match the table to your chairs, you can see the full line of CeCe Caldwell paints on their website - they do have a darker gray that might work!

The finished product was a table worthy of any game player's home. If you are planning on using the table for anything other than just games, you can always get a piece of glass or Plexiglas cut to the same size to place over top.

*You can't really see the legs of the table in the finished picture (they are gray), but it's a good way to show the chalkboard top! Also, I know the table says "Stab Your Buddy" - please keep in mind it's all part of a game!*

Painting it white with a glass top would look nice. Or the same color as the chairs.

What about yellow with glass top it would go with the fabric on the chair.
