Kitchen cabinet ideas? Dark floors, dark countertops.

We just had new floors (select surfaces laminate) installed. I love the floors, but the problem is that I don't like the way my kitchen cabinets look with them. For some reason, I thought that the color floors that I picked would compliment the cabinets. Not so. They are too close in color, no contrast at all. My bad.
My contractor says that he can reface the cabinets with new wood doors in a different color. My current cabinets look like wood, but they are not. They are some kind of laminate/foil which after 10 years, are now peeling and curling in some areas. So, I'll be very happy to get new doors that are real wood. Problem is, I don't know which color I should get to go with my new floors and existing countertop, which is dark granite.
My first instinct is to go with a very light wood, because I love the warmth wood gives. I didn't think I was a fan of white because it looks cold/sterile to me, but maybe white/cream should be the route I take because of the existing dark colors? I just don't know. Any ideas?
Not sure if I should mention, I'm in South Florida. My kitchen is open to my family room.
Thanks for any input you may have.
