You have a huge number of nice things and beautiful furniture. Here are some options. Remove all the decorative pillows, the rugs, and the curtains. Place all the accessories, including those on the wall, on the dining room table and choose one-third or one-quarter to display. Put the rest away for another season (rotate to display) . One or two decorative pillows per sofa is enough. For new curtains, perhaps plain white panels would be an option. Use the same color white or off white as the wood trim is painted.

It looks as though most of your accessories (pillows, candle sticks, artwork, etc) need updating which is the easy and less expensive way to go about making the room more present-day. Though your furniture is more traditional you can find some newer accessories that give the room a face lift. Remove artificial plants and all the cushions (as mentioned above). From the photo it looks as though everything is burgundy, the sofa, picture, candle, vase, etc. You could try adding hints of a contrasting color like mustard, pumpkin, or lime green. If you buy pillar candles in those colors you could get an idea of how each looks in the room before you commit and then repeat it a few more times in the room.
