painted trim and Stained woodwork

Hi! I absolutely love this house. We are building a house and I am having Atrouble with deciding on how to mix the painted wood with the stained. Is there any general rule? Or something to avoid doing? What did you do for the interior doors? Would painted trim and a dark stain door look okay together? Thanks so much!

Beautiful inspiration pic! There is hardly a wrong way to mix painted with stained trim. I love it--especially with hardwood floors. You can definitely mix painted casing with a stained door---it is a beautiful combination I've seen many times.

I have cherry cabinetry and walnut floors with white casing and base, but then my mantles are a mix of stained and painted construction, as well is the staircase. For example, the top surface of my upstairs fireplace mantle is stained, but the apron underneath is white--see my attached photo (that was while I was playing around with furniture arrangements before we moved in the house! Sorry it looks so unfinished - I need some updated pics!). My staircase has stained rails but painted spindles (sorry this is the only pic I can find and it happens to include my blurry 4-yr old) haha so look at it in the background for an idea.

For the home in the above image I used the same stain color on the beams, window, and any stained wood work in the home. The baseboards and door casings were all lacquered the same color, along with the kitchen for this home. The passage doors were lacquered a very dark brown/black. The key is to keep all of the stained material the same color and then a bit of a contrast with the flooring.
Dark stained doors would look great with a pianted trim, as long as the stain is consistant with the rest of the wood work. And if you are mixing wood materials you should get the stain matched to look the same on the differnt species.
