Do I paint original wood trim?

To paint or not to paint? About to paint all the walls in this 1916 bungelow. The rooms needs some serious light. Will new blinds, wall paint and drapes be enough or should we paint the old wood trim??

yes...alll for painting trim...unless it is a historic home and you need to preserve it.

Leave the trim -its beautiful, new paint blinds and drapes will look amazing.

Leave the wood alone.....do not even think about it again. LOL It is just beautiful in your home!

Beautiful trim! If anything just paint the small crown moulding at the ceiling. I wouldn't touch the rest. Brighten up with paint, fabrics, lighting...good luck

The trim might benefit from cleaning, but please don't paint it.

This was a 1905 house and we painted all the woodwork even added back the molding on the ceiling and wide baseboards, I think some spaces just look better with white woodwork and if you love the dark wood leave it and if you don't paint it, there are no rules in your own space.

Painting the trim depends on a couple of things. First of all, what style are you aiming for with your furnishings? If you are staying in character with the era of the house then you probably shouldn't paint the trim. Also I see curtain rods so if you are putting the curtains back up that will relieve some of the darkness that comes with the trim exposed as it is right now. And last, older houses frequently have poor lighting. If the darkness of the house interior is an issue, investigate ways to light it better.

NO! Considering most homes come with MDF trim these days, stained wood is a rarity. If anything, strip and re-stain. The only portion to consider painting is the crown/bead. It's small and makes the room appear shorter.

Well, I'm one for painting dark wood because I can't live with dark spaces. If you want to paint, go ahead. Happiness trumps resale value, IMO. Go with what's right for you.
