Kitchen Seating Area

Can you please tell me how many inches the kitchen counter top hangs over the cabinets for the seating area. Is it 12" or smaller?

The standard is 12", however you can make the overhang as wide or narrow as you want it to be.

12" is minmum but works fine.

Thanks. We are doing a large "L" shaped island with a higher tier seating area on the long side of the L. I would like to have the lower tier be accessible for seating (right now in our plan it is not) but not necessarily look like stools needed to be there. I thought this might be a nice modern clean design solution. The overhang looked smaller than 12"- maybe 10" which is why I was curious. Thanks for your input.

When designing seated counters we usually use a minimum of 16" if the space permits. If you take a chair or stool and place it in front of a wall, then sit on the stool. You will quickly realize what you need to sit comfortably.

But the counter top overlaps your knees so you don't need 16", 12" is perfect. If you have tons of room then yeah, go 14 or 16.
