Yes, probably is deeper than normal but again, depends on the size of the microwave. Anywhere from 12" to 18". Need to find micro first then the shelf.

Excuse me, but where did you find/buy those shelves? My kitchen is basically set up exactly like yours and I would LOVE to put my microwave up on a shelf EXACTLY like that and I cannot a shelve like that. I have looked at Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn and Home Depot. Thanks.

Spinxguy 18... I saw floating shelves like this at Ikea last year. Don't see them on their website, but you might try either going into a local Ikea or calling them. Basically, the bracket was a flat metal piece that had tubes or whatever, pointing outward (the whole unit looked like a capital E) that a shelf with corresponding holes drilled into the edge slipped over. If you hit a dead-end with Ikea, then I would try Googling either floating shelf or hidden wall bracket.
