I did black doors for Kim Z in her home and would caution you to not do them unless they are spread out because they can quickly become black holes when they are really close to one another.

So these are too close and there are just too many facing each other......

This is my first house w/ standard builders doors, they aren't nice, i usually replace doors but i have 2500 sf of new hardwood & porcelain to put in....I know black would class them up but I don't want them to look like polka dots!

I would focus on other areas for design, and try to make the doors blend in as much as possible. Don't make them a focal point. Use wallpapers, rugs, drapery, and paint to spice up the space instead.

I designed a kitchen for a family that is very large and lots of windows. All of the cabinetry is black. It looks great in that space. In a small kitchen all enclosed area I would use the black as a stand alone area such as island cabinetry rather than all over. The counter is a quartz stone with caramel and black tones. Very rich looking.

Mr. Neal, I see your point. It reinforces an idea I had--to "color-block" the open floor plan. In the dining room I had already "painted in" the built-ins with the wainscoting and walls. The dining rm shares a wall with the main entry and is open to it. I decided to continue the dining color into the entry painting the trim, walls and coat closet door & wall. So if the living room walls doors and trim were painted the same then the living room would be "color-blocked" as well. High polished off black porcelain tiles follow the traffic areas continously from one end of the house to the other. Now the only dilemma is should the front french doors in living room be painted BM Black Jack or SW Gauntlet Gray which is the mantel & built-in TV cab color? French doors would b the only black doors in the space. They r visit le from every where.
