Many new customers have the same questions when they first start working with a custom home builder. People often build their “forever home” with us so this is a new and unique experience for them. Here are some common initial questions:

“Do I need an architect?” or “Is it okay if I don’t have plans yet?”
No, you don’t need an architect. Our in-house design team can design a house for you from scratch, so you don’t need any plans when you come to us to build your home. Since our in-house team can take the plans from start to finish, we can do it much more competitively. Designing a home within your budget is important.
Still want an architect? We can refer you to architects familiar with SIP construction and who have the same passion for green living as we do.

“I don’t know what I want yet; do you have plans I can chose from?”
We’ve been building custom houses for over 30 years, so we are full of ideas! We do have plans of homes we’ve built in the past to get you started, but remember that each home we design is created for its own lot and to the taste of the owner. Anything you want to do differently is entirely at your control.

I recently talked to a new customer who said, “But we have our own ideas.”
Excellent! Draw or write down all your ideas as they come so they won’t slip away from you when you sit down with our design team. Consider things like how many bedrooms and bathrooms you need. What features you will want in your home that are “non-negotiable”. What specific style or genre are you looking for? Many people come to us with ideas they’ve sketched out on a napkin!

Since this may be the last home you own, consider universal design, putting the master bedroom on the main floor, and curb less showers. High efficiency homes will save you money every year on energy bills, and well-built homes are much lower maintenance in the long run.
