Help with dining chairs and wall!

So my hubby and I finally bought a dining table but I am having the hardest time finding chairs. I wasn't sure if I should go with an upholstered chair for a more formal look, or an industrial/modern look with metal or plastic chairs. I didn't want anything matchy matchy, which is why we didn't buy the matching chairs. Any suggestions? The table was a little bigger and lighter than we thought (we bought it online), but the quality is nice. The dimensions of the table are 29.3 inches high x 59.1 inches wide x 35.4 inches deep . (FYI our house is very narrow, only about 10 ft wide.) The max we can go for seat height is 19", and width would be max 24". We don't really have a color scheme yet for the dining/kitchen area but the rest of our decor has grey as a neutral with pops of color. I'm also not sure what type of art to put on the wall. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Given the proximity to the kitchen (casual chairs needed I think) and with your black cupboards, I would look for modern black chairs. Find ones that fit neatly under table so as not to take up too much room. Not sure if you were planning on changing the position of the table - would look better other way around. For art, it may be nice to do a collage of black framed prints that highlight b&w and also vibrante colors. [houzz=

Thank you both for the suggestions! @maureen, which way do you mean by other direction? We're limited on space as our house is a really narrow rowhouse/townhouse and it has an open concept, so I didn't want to obstruct the walking path from the front of the house to the back of the house(kitchen/dining area). Our house is about 10 ft wide, maybe a little less, and the table dimensions are 59.1 inches wide x 35.4 inches deep. Here are a few more angles of the room.

I'd use Moller chairs. Used ones come out on ebay frequently and deals can be had. I personally got 6 Brazilian cherry chairs and a three leaf cherry table for 2100.

cg266... First congratulations on your new home, a very exciting time!

I think Maureen was suggesting turning the table 45 degrees....so the short end is to the wall...then you can 4 chairs on either side. Looking at your last picture, toward the stariscase.....It appears that you could probably center the table with the staircase....with the table turned and centered you would be able to walk around the table going either direction.
Would you be willing to try and post a new picture?
Also, where does the white door lead to....pantry, entrance into your home, basement?

I'm at work right now but when I get home I will take a picture of the table in a different direction and post it on here. The white door leads to a small powder room. We live in rowhouse, so it's basically one long rectangle all the way through with the exception of the switchback stairs and powder room that jut out on the one side.

Turning the table crossed my mind right away, too, as right now, it is just lined up with the counter, making all straight lines. When you move it later, even see if it can even be a titch off the wall instead of right up against it.

abbyjean...Hi! I hope the table can work the other direction and if space allows; I was hoping cg266 could POSSIBLY get a small scale sideboard/hutch on that wall... Even a small scale sofa table could work! If there is room to still walk through the room and pull chairs out with blocking everything. I hope turning and centering the table with the stair wall will create a dining room feel.

PS I like "titch" I use "smidgen" :-)

If the room is 10' wide and the table is 5', I would suggest putting the end of the table against the wall and chairs on the sides only. Then a sideboard might go on the opposite wall, next to the kitchen counter on the stove side.

In keeping with yr comment about not "going matchy-matchy'
You might consider the tobias chair or something similar .
Since the chairs are clear it will help keep the space open.
you might want to add a pair of light coloured vinyl chairs with arms.

Here is the table moved in several different directions. Let me know your thoughts! The last one I have it centered in the room (directly below a hook up for a chandelier). If we had the table anywhere else we'd need a swag one. Thanks!

Well, ya know, I think I like the last arrangement and having it under the hook up is just an added perk for me. I thought I would like it better turned, just to get rid of the line up with the counters, but it seems to have plenty of room in the middle of the floor this way. Right?

If u have an artsy or whimsical side a variety of old but interesting thrift shop chairs freshly painted in accent colors could be a counterpoint to your modern look..to keep the look a little more in line all chairs matching in aubergine would add a little flair in this space

I would place the table against the wall lengthwise vertical to the wall to present a more spacious and grounded feel

I like it pulled out and centered. Can you show us how it would look turned? I think a round table would look good too.

Thank you everyone for the helpful advice!! My hubby and I went to Ikea this weekend just to browse and we really liked the Tobias chairs. They were having a huge sale too. We like the look of the table in the center and it actually opens up the room a bit since the chairs are clear. Hubby insisted on having a rug. It sort of reminds me of an island right now (lol) but maybe when we add art to the left wall and a small console of some sort then it won't look as random. Hubby also suggested as an alternative, we could get a bench to place on the left wall that we can pull out if we have more guests. The candles in the center are turquoise but I'm not sure they really go. I was thinking of doing a chartreuse or citron accent instead. Any suggestions on inexpensive ceiling light fixtures would be helpful as well. Overall thoughts? FYI the rug is more of a "greige." Thanks!

I love hubby's role in this room! What a fun day of shopping and then putting it together when you got home.

It probably seems like an island since the new is so new, but the size of the rug and everything looks like it totally works. While I love the idea of a bench for extra seating, I think you might enjoy having the floor open right there. Maybe just a nice canvas art on the wall to enjoy while dining, at least from that side of the table.

Thanks! I'm very lucky to have a hubby who's so involved but still lets me have my decorating freedom. :) I agree. I'll scour the internet for art, preferably with the accent colors I was targeting (citron/chartreuse). Then next up is the lighting.
