You might consider a curved sofa and round ottoman as pictured directly in front of your fireplace with occasional chairs for additional seating. Your windows and moldings are truly lovely. Perhaps a formal drapery on the large picture window would be enough.

The classic arrangements you eliminated are the best for long narrow rooms, that's why designers do them so often, and they are the most symmetrical and therefore the most traditional. So I would suggest you reconsider. But if you want a slightly less ideal alternative, (I would need measurements to check) but you could do an L-shaped sectional or one sofa perpendicular to the fireplace and two chairs facing it with a small accent table inbetween them. It will be off center to the fireplace but still look ok. Use a very lage area rug to create more symmetry with the fireplace. Just pull everything in closer to the fireplace, I don't suggest a sofa just against that wall. Do a large round ottoman in the center (extra seating). Use the corner opposite the fireplace and on the other side of the room from the piano for a tall backed chair - maybe a large wingback chair with a floor lamp next to it. Make sure it's substantially taller than the rest of the furniture otherwise it will just hide back there.

An alternate arrangement would be four chairs on a diagonal to the fireplace with the large round ottoman in the center. Then add your narrow window benches either side of the fireplace. If you are open to a bit of remodeling, have small walls framed to create niches for your window benches (it will make them much cozier) - perhaps match the depth of the fireplace or even a little deeper and move the piano back a few feet. This will give you a very symmetrical, formal traditional feel. It will also give the shorter windows more presence. For the drapes look for an elegant embroidered silk or something with a floral or stripe fabric. For a very traditional look, embellish them with some tassel fringe or bullion fringe. I would not do a valance if you are woried about taking away from your wood work, instead do a substantial decorative curtain rod (think 2" thick) and mount it just below your crown molding. The use of tie backs (tassel or fabric) will allow you to expose more of your window trim at the bottom half of the window.You can match the draperies on all 3 windows, or if you build the alcoves, you could leave those smaller windows bare, or use the same fabric to do an outside mounted roman shade. Mount the roman shades just under the crown molding and roll them up so that they cover only the top trim of your window, leaving the rest of the window trim exposed. This will make them look taller. You can also have these made as "faux" roman shades that are valances that don't operate if you don't need to open and close shades over those windows. I would also paint the trim white for a crisper look that I feel would better suit the color of your fireplace surround. Hope that helps.

Hi, tzofia. What a beautiful piano and room! The floors are absolutely stunning.

I think I would make three seating areas in this room - with the middle area connecting the opposite sides. I would place a tete a tete sofa before the fireplace atop a subdued area rug with small tables on either side. The great thing about this sofa style is the versatility in orientation - its position in the middle will relate to both sides. Under the windows to the left of the fireplace I would place two comfortable arm chairs with a table between. Across from them on the opposite wall a nice traditonal sofa with perhaps an oval table before it.

Since you will have bench window seats on the piano side of the room, I think all that's needed is an occasional chair against the wall with a small side table and floor lamp.

For the high windows, I would do recessed shades in ivory (or similar to the trim) and for the large window floor to ceiling drapes. A tone on tone neutral damask would be lovely.

I think I would also repaint. Take a look at Grant Beige by Benjamine Moore. It's a warm neutral that I think will do well with the wood fireplace surround.

Hang 2 modern, eclectic chandeliers on both ends of the room (wrought iron to tie in with the black piano?). Angle the piano toward the center of the room, with the seat in the corner facing the "audience". For seating I would get a really sleek, white leather sectional and face it toward the piano & large window. Have it a few feet in front of the the entrance to the room opposite the largest window, so there is plenty of walkway. The chaise part would be closest to the fireplace (which is very beautiful, by the way). Place a chair facing the sectional, and one facing the chaise. Put an eclectic coffee table in the middle that could match the chandeliers. Under this seating arrangement should go a very large rug. In the corner beside the piano you now have room for a loveseat, if you angle it toward the fireplace. You have one huge wall that could be an art gallery.

I would suggest you place the piano and some interesting wall art and/or mirrors along the solid wall that is opposite the fireplace. Then, make an L-shaped conversational area by placing a sofa, corner end table, and chair under the windows at the left side of the fireplace, as per your photos. Since the other end of the room has a doorway going into another room, I would suggest you put a bookcase or china cabinet on each side of the door. For the under-window space at this right side of the fireplace, you might add a small sofa or love sea, an easy chair, OR a table that can serve as a desk along with one or two dining chairs that can serve as desk chairs. I did not notice your lighting, but three chandeliers centered over each of these areas would look wonderful. You might get window treatments that would be suspended on rods placed on the sides of the window trim. I would suggest a simple tailored valence and then café-style curtains for the bottom half of each window, made of an opaque fabric in white to let some light into the room. Some light-colored area rugs would contrast nicely from the dark floor and the dark tones of the fireplace.
