The tub only weights 38 pounds. Does it feel with good finish? I love this tub but i am concerned about the look since most of the other brand's tubs are heavier...

interesting question -- the issue in my mind is the difference between cast iron and acrylic - I always used to specify cast iron - better sound protection, last forever... and the acrylic models just felt cheap. But these days -- few folks choose cast iron -- there are ways to deal with sound (Pack the cavity with insulation) and options abound. Both materials require cleaning and care that is right for the material -- but other than that - which is easy to follow - I would not have any concerns about the weight of the tub -- having said that - if you can sit in the tub before buying it - I would do so - you want to make sure that the depth and length are good /right for you.

I am searching for a tub that is "easier" to bathe small children in, and saw you mentioned this is the current use of your bathroom. Something with a thinner side wall or taller sides? Is this tub any better than most? ...for bending over to reach little ones.

to be honest -- bathing a child in a tub while sitting/kneeling outside - on the floor and or on a low stool, and or perching on the edge always seems like a gymnastic feat. You are correct that the shallower tubs - and those with a lower edge, relative to the floor make this easier, if you are outside of the tub and reaching over.
This tub was selected because of its size, interior shape and your good questions were not really considered. The child thinking about this tub had more to do with anticipating the future use of a shower -- but until that time -- not having any kind of curtain/door/screen - to get in the way of the assistance with bathing.
another solution - and one used by some - especially if there can only be one tub in the dwelling and the adults would prefer a deep tub is to bathe with the child in the tub -- not for all.
You might consider mocking up your ideal situation - set yourself up in your preferred position outside of an imaginary tub and have someone measure you as you play act bathing -- what is your reach - what is the most comfortable relationship between you, your arms.. and a seated child. and then with this dimensional information - do a search for a tub -

I don't have this information on hand - but if you search the Duravit web site and look for this tub - DCode #700095 they should have a spec sheet. the water level will be tied to the height of the overflow --thanks for the question.

I just want to say thanks for all the information you had provided on the D-Code tub. Ironically, the shorter length of this tub works well in my bathroom. Looking at your work at this client's bathroom actually convinced me to do something similar. The only concern I have is how I'm going to be able to affix stone/tile to the front side of the tub. Is there additional parts I will have to purchase from Duravit in order to accomplish this? I guess what I'm trying to ask is what do I need, aside from what already comes with the purchase of the tub, to safely and securely affix the stone/tile.
