Your island is very gold ,best to pick the lightest color in the granite and paint it that color

I think if I do that I'm back to yellow.

Cabinets are not hickory, if they were what you were referring to.

The space appears bright and well lit. Consider a darker color that will complement the granite and back splash.

Look at your dishwasher in the pic. If you use a LIGHTER medium shade of the pewter color and purposefully add pewter accents to the bar area and countertop to pull in the color on the walls, it will work. You have to blend the countertop colors and the pewter to make it pull together. Maybe add metal of some sort to create interest with the colors. If you like color, then add one more color, possibly an "orange yellow" family color that is darker- like a muted brick shade to mix in with the pewter- this will pull in the color of the cabinetry and island and pull it all together:).

I like the idea of a soft shade of white too.

I think a grey would work, just depends on what kind of grey. This is definitely a case where you want to get samples and take them in the kitchen to test. It looks like a grey is in the granite and backsplash.

You have a lot of warmth in the tones of the flooring, cabinets and countertop. Why not add a cool note with a green?

I'd go with BM Healing Aloe. Our kitchen has similar tones and a vaulted ceiling like yours. We went with the green to lighten and yet tone down the wood. Love it!!

What beautiful cabinetry! I'm thinking something in the blue family to go along with the coastal vibe you mention would look lovely.

Benjamin Moore has a paint color called Rustic Brick. Having high ceilings this darker color may soften the yellow counter top but pronounce the cabinets not making those seem so yellow. You could use this on one wall as the accent to another color on the other walls.

lisamke, it's hard to tell for sure without seeing a closeup of your granite. For a cream-ish color, take a look at Ben Moore's Maritime White. If you're interested in a neutral greige-ish color, look at BM's Winds Breath...I like it with stainless appliances, but, again, not sure about your granite.

Here's Winds Breath in this bathroom...I really like it.

Zweiback's. 4th picture, sea foam greenish. Think it is THE color for your kitchen, bring in the green to the rest of the lichen with a few accessories, vase for the center island, rugs, hand towels.

Your cabinets look like they are knotty pine. If it was Hickory, with that light of stain, you would see more variations in the wood tone. This is a hickory door:

Well now that is very interesting! I have been under the impression they were a character hickory. There are samples somewhere in the basement I think. I'll have to see if they're labeled.

I love the kitchen with its nice detail of the deep window behind the sink. Besides a new paint color, I think I would add much beefier hardware to the cabinets. The tiny round knobs disappear in the pattern in the wood. That would bring in a little more grey/pewter color to tie in with the appliances. I do really like your white counter. Can I ask what it is and is it shiny or matte? Thanks.

Whoops, erased my suggestion which was to paint the kitchen and adjoining room the same white as your counter tops...do the ceiling the same, also. Then find a fabric for windows or cushions to tie it all together.

Counters are white corian. They're matte. The granite on the island is honed. I'm not sure what to do with that "window well" :) I was thinking of getting some kind of shelf type thing and do herbs maybe. You would do white walls and ceiling even with white trim? Thank you!

i have just ordered hickory cabinets and now wish i had gone with white because so hard to find a paint color . Any other suggestions, maybe a blue gray or lighter blue green? I don't know what to do ?
