We would say no. While we understand why you want the shutters, your home looks properly proportioned and if you do shutters, things will start to feel cramped. Looks great as is - you should be a proud homeowner! Enjoy -Chelsea Construction

I agree with all above. Shutters are not needed. Larger light fixtures on either side of the door would show up nicely, and perhaps a brighter contrasting color on the door and the trim around the door would add to it's prominence.

Some larger trees in front maybe?

Now, I know this may come as a shock, but I'm going to vote for Yes to shutters. The article posted by decoenthusiaste doesn't necessarily explain why to avoid shutters, it merely explains how to avoid the PITFALLS of bad shutter selection and installation.

Your home is lovely, and while I don't know what it looked like before, the finished renovation is gorgeous and welcoming. I do agree that landscaping will add a bit more of interest to the front, as the new landscaping grows in, but the shutters will add additional character and definition to the home's curb appeal, as will the suggestion of larger lanterns, statement pieces, around the front door to frame the home.

That being said, the windows are a bit tricky. The two front downstairs ones are offset, which look nice but do not have enough space to put the properly sized shutters on each side of the windows. Fear not, we have a solution! Many folks use bi-fold installation options for the shutters, which allows for the properly sized shutters to be placed on one side of the window, without detracting from the impact of fully functional shutters. The top windows also face that issue because they are double windows and would also then need the bi-folds.

Rest assured that the bi-fold option is classic and is not merely a forced solution to an design. In fact, it is often a chosen option by designers and architects. There are two different types (well, really, as many as the imagination can come up with). One is the traditional (you can see the demonstration here) and the other is the booking bi-fold installation

Thank you all for your input. We have decided to go with NO Shutters and are purchasing larger light fixtures. The landscaping is new and with growth should also help in giving us the desired look. Thanks for all your positive comments!
