White is usually used for the cabinetry and contrasted with darker countertop or flooring so the space doesn't feel too sterile.

It depends on the other finish materials that are used in the kitchen. An all white kitchen could look sterile just like an all black kitchen could look sterile. If all of the materials in the kitchen are white and grey then it could become a little cold looking. There are ways to incorporate warmth and color while maintaining the contemporary look.
