I think the Renate is the right choice. I'm a little worried about the drapery pattern.

Carolyn, what would you pick for curtains? I was torn between a tweed/burlap kind of look and then repeat with a burlap runner on dining table and a similar color roman shade on kitchen window.
I also like that coffee table. It's simplicity would give the heavy furniture and busy rug a breather. I appreciate your input!

For your LR draperies I would go for a plain off white linen look., which is simplicity itself. I see no need for a table runner to match a drapery. For your kitchen window, you could choose a wood blind which allows you to tilt it to control the sun light, again a very simple product.

BTW, by "linen look" I mean something that looks like linen but doesn't give you the wrinkle problems associated with linen. Some of these fabrics are all synthetic and some have a percentage of linen in them. Choose one that looks good. Scrunch it in your hand to see how much it might wrinkle.

If you don't mind another opinion, I was going to suggest going for a white coffee table to freshen up the space and highlight your great area rug. And I actually like the original geometric curtains you proposed at the start of your thread. I think they will give life to the light (white?) walls. There you go - two totally different looks to consider and confuse you even more:)

You can find linen-blend curtains from Country Curtains company. They do not wrinkle and have a marvelous texture. Washable too and not a bad price. I think you can now get them with grommets. A first I didn't care for grommets but have a pair in a bedroom with a large window and they hang nicely as well as being easy to open and close. If you like traditional style than grommets may not be the way to go. Your call.

For the drapery color, I would select an off white.

Coffee table arrived. We love it! Curtains are ordered. They are a light basket weave textured curtain a light beige. Any thoughts on pillows perhaps and ottoman?

An ottoman for storage or extra seating.

I like the Nordstrom pillow and would add a couple of white ones, yes white, even with young boys!

Maybe it's just me but I don't see that a navy blue pillow would go with the color of your rug and the zigzag pillow with the rug pattern is not complementary . Love the coffee table. May I ask from where your purchased it?

I find that it is fun to mix patterns, but I do understand that it's not for everyone. I also know that sometimes you can try something and find that it doesn't work. That's one of the pitfalls of ordering online. It does complicate trying things out and making returns.

Carolyn- I like the orange idea! I also like mixing up the patterns. Trying to be less "matcha matchy". I have a chevron pattern kitchen rug. I think I'll look locally, just in case. Maybe homegoods. I'll ponder white. Perhaps an easy to clean fabric.

If white worries you for the pillows, then make the throw white. The kids will be less interested in it, I think. But white pillows with a zipper would allow for easy dry cleaning or washing.

Saw this at pier 1. Could add navy pillows, white or clay/orange. I have a rust colored tray I could pull out and use on coffee table.

Carolyn, they also had a pretty white one that texture in it and a navy velvety one and a clay one too. Very pretty and rich colors.

You might benefit from bringing them all home, trying them out, and showing us photos of various combinations if you need help with selection.

I think bright yellow or lime in pillows would go nicely with the blue rug.

Ran across these curtains and I love them. Had to order them. The light texture one's came and didn't work at all. Also found these pillows, had to order them too. Thinking a dark orange pillow too. I have a orange/rust tray I can put on table too. Thinking I may be on to something. MIL comes in 3wks!

There's plenty of navy in your rug so you could give your pillows just a bit of navy to tie things together. Then what is needed is white and bright orange, not dark orange. The sofa is dark. The rug is dark. Please lighten and brighten up on the pillows!

Carolyn, you are SO right. The darker pillows bug me. I guess trial and error. I put this post up for ideas. Guess I should use the ideas!! :)

I did find white pillows with a cable sweater texture to them. Soft and cozy. Along with a white, dark blue and orange pillow I think will look perfect.

I'm so glad you've found some white cable knit pillows and a white, dark blue and orange pillow. When you place them on your sofa, I would put two at one end and one on the other end, with none in the middle, unless one of the pillows is rectangular. Then the rectangular one could go in the middle. So I'm hoping you're keeping the solid orange one to go with the white one and the multi-colored one.

I was considering not keeping it, but I do like it. I will try it out when I have them all. Thanks for the tips.

How about something softer like a cocktail ottoman with fabric?
