It looks like you have some variation in wood tones in done of the doors, and then the angled handles....so I would paint white like the photos saved to your ideabook, and reposition and change handles. I don't recommend the two toned look with the white appliances as they will stand out too much. A small island might be an idea to bring in the two toned look, but the space looks small, so not sure if you have room and leaving enough space for fridge/oven/dishwasher opening.

I'd certainly change the handles.
After that, if you change just one thing it will make a big difference so I would choose either the splashback or the cupboards - depends on time, budget etc

First off, those angled cabinet pulls are making me crazy just seeing them on my monitor! I would definitely change them out asap. To lighten up the kitchen, I would paint the cabinets white. The white appliances will blend in more and it will create a more seamless look. I would then update the kitchen with a new countertop and backsplash. I think the current dark backsplash is too heavy-looking, so I would definitely go lighter there. For the countertop you will have a lot of options. That's the beauty of a white kitchen, it goes with everything!

Are the cabinets wood? If so, you could whitewash them so you can still see the grain. That would stop the mouldings from looking out of place. Definitely agree about changing the handles. I'd also clean the kitchen out i.e. take everything off the benches, fridge, stove etc. It often helps get a fresh perspective. Putting some white/plain paper up along the splash back temporarily will give you an idea of how much lighter the space is if it's changed permanently.

From my point of view, there is no need to change your cabinet color. I think putting lighter backsplash would work.

Something as small as just changing the cabinet pulls
Can make a BIG change ...

Along with little things ...like a new kettle
and other useful things dotted around .
Also taking off some doors leaving them open shelved
Adding nice crockery
displayed inside those cabinets
although ..
Some might say gathers dust !!!!
Even just changing a centre kitchen light .....
adding a new rug can change the feel of an old kitchen (Just food for thought )
Once cabinets are painted there's no going back

some kitchens are crying out to be painted ..
Don't really think yours is..
But maybe your Ideabook is saying otherwise

Good idea suggested taking everything out
Thus giving you a new perspective...

I totally agree about the handles, but if I straighten the handles, I'd have to paint, unless I can find a wood filler that is an exact match. I also love the idea of taping up paper to the backsplash! These cabinets are indeed solid wood, custom built from the previous owner. I appreciate everyone's comments, sometimes people think about something so much that they get stuck in a rut, and I am in that rut! Thanks again everyone!
