Removing plaster? Paint? From wood molding

The one feature that sold me on purchasing this house was the beautiful wood molding in the living & dining rooms. However, over the course of popcorn removal & my FIL "helping" to paint said ceilings, there is stuff all over them. I've tried goof off & denatured alcohol & it isn't moving it. Any tips???
