Not sure if you are still looking for appliances - the best thing to do is check the facebook page of the different manufacturers and see what customers say on there. You can get very honest opinions about the quality and service issues of the brand, make sure to click on the section that says other user comments.

Consumer reports is the best place but if you know what look you would like to go with, have a budget and wish list. Then call any appliance store and ask what brand they would recommend and what issue they been facing with complaints, in those brand you are interested. Plus who is the nearest Tech. For your area for that brand. Response time well trained tech makes a big difference.

I would say a collective of amazon, best buy, Home Depot, etc. they all have reviews so i was able to gauge appliances well. You pick up on design deficiencies as well as manufacturing shortcomings when they show up throughout. On the flip side, you also hear about the great things and common reasons people abandon other brands in lieu of the one you are looking at. Great thing about these reviews as a collective is that you hear about durability, cleanliness, design deficiencies found thru use, and many other thing that can't be understood on a spec sheet in a lab environment.

Appliances can be a bit of a craps shoot these days. Unless you go with higher end, you can expect a variety of mixed reviews. Consumer reports is a good resource, but it can be tough to navigate all the info when looking around online. If you can ask around for referrals to a local appliance store that is well established and reputable, I would start by asking questions there. As a contractor, we have a vendor who has dealt with almost every brand for many years, and benefiting from their personal experience is quite valuable.
