First of all I would move the piano to the staircase wall so it's not the focal point when you look into the room. Love the chairs, mirrors etc. that you have. Could you move the table/lamp from the window to under the mirrors and pull the chairs around a bit.
You may need a loveseat also in there. Could you change up and post back.

For light, why not buy a couple of nice floor lamps to go in corners? I have a couple, and love them as they're out of the way, but give enough light I can read by them in the evening.

As this is virtually a second hallway, I'd love to see a touch of flamboyance in the room. A chandelier would give you that if you could see your way to coping with the complications of hanging one where no wiring currently exists. It should hang at a level where it would be reflected in the mirrors, which don't have much to look at right now.

I love the first one, but not if you don't have a very large wallet.

Why would you not want the piano to be the focal point? I don't get why other comments want you to move it! I'd keep it there, but move the half moon table to the stair wall and put the two chairs in front of the window and put a small table between them with a table lamp. If you have $ to buy more stuff, put a sofa about 2-3' from the window with a console table behind it, and put the two chairs directly opposite the sofa (w/no table between them). I'd also add some tall, narrow bookcases on either side of the piano and add an area rug in the middle of the room on top of the other rug to anchor the space.

I like the idea of a chandelier as well. If this were my room, I would continue to keep the piano on the wall it's currently on. I would flip the slipper chairs to the stair wall to create a grouping that would make sense if someone were playing the piano. A small round table between them could work nicely. The problem with the mirrors is that they aren't at eye level reflecting something interesting. Is there another space that you could use them? A loveseat in front of the windows would also be helpful toward creating a more intimate feeling in the room. 3 to 4 sources of light will help create more of an inviting ambiance. Have you thought about layering a low pile rug for more pattern?

HI -- Is it time to maybe graduate to a baby grand , huh ?? That would be better to place in this room than the up-right piano . Your piano and everything else is fine the way you have it arranged now .... but , to make the piano fit the wall better it needs to be backed by the same color as the piano to make it more blended with the room. Either put a dark color same as piano on a section just enough for the piano and the mirrors to fit plus a little extra on each side . Or I would prefer you do the whole wall with wood , stained to match the piano . This will add some richness and make everything look like it belongs in this room. Then get a couple of Chandelier style floor lamps ( Restorationhardware.com ) and then possibly a small settee (sofa) facing the piano and then pull the two chairs forward a little towards the settee . Or back the settee to the window and have the chairs across facing the window . And if you can get more of the drapes to fill that window wall to the sides for a full wall look.

Yes, before you move the piano, try the chairs in front of the window and the console on the stairway wall. The chairs need to face the piano more instead of being on the same wall with it.

The mirrors are a tad too wide for the piano....should not extend beyond it to make it visually work. Putting a floor lamp on one side will help balance them out, even though I realize you have a small light on the piano.

Is it your piano room or not? If it is, put your piano in the center on an angle, with back toward window. Place a light weight open chair next to it - like a teachers chair. Put lamps in all your corners and large art with glass or mirrors, for reflection, on long walls. Move everything else out of the room. Play away. I wish I could enjoy your music.

Thanks everyone, great ideas and this just might give me an excuse to get a baby grand. Any thoughts on the wall color? The front room only gets indirect light so I don't want it too dark, but think its kind of blah right now, but I like the gold curtains.

Hi Stacy. I think it depends on where you want the room to end up. Everything in the space right now is pretty much a neutral. Do you see bringing pattern and color in, or are you planning to keep it more monochromatic?

Well, I'm a pretty monochromatic gal (my idea of color is bringing in some dark gray :) , but that doesn't mean I shouldn't try something new. I'm leaning toward painting it a rich/warm cream color and bringing in some color and pattern with pillows, ottoman etc.

I'd get some swatches to see what you like, but a place to start maybe Benjamin Moore's Shelburne Buff, HC-28. This is a deeper creamy golden color which could help give the room some more visual interest. I think an area rug with more color could go a long way in the room as well.

If you use the piano - I would get a grand and THAT would be the focal point !

I love that you decided to make it a piano lounge, not only a piano room. What a beautiful comfy space to sit and enjoy music, read or visit. It will get much more use this way.

It is looking good. I'd make the mirrors single line vertical - maybe on the wall that separates the piano room from the living room thus reflecting the piano. Big piece of vertical art over piano and narrower than piano. Definitely a Persian-type run that will provide the room format, color and and, depending on size, bring in the two chairs and table in front of window to sit on rug or just up to the rug. I'd try the piano on a big rug, again just out from wall. Think European and move in from the walls. Keep your pix coming.

Your best bet with armless chairs would be an oversized ceramic garden stool. Angled chairs need a round table. The issue with the mirrors is that their footprint is wider than the piano so they dwarf it. They should be within 75% of its width and hang 5" above it. Six of them are too much and the top ones are just doubling the ceiling, The angular item hanging above your console table is too high and contradicts the soft curves of the table. I would try that piece hanging 5" above the piano. Hang a curved mirror above the console table, and see if the square mirrors would work elsewhere in your home. If you leave the chairs flanking the piano, you might stack the mirrors three and three either side of the piano starting about 24" off the floor - that would be dramatic.
