HI -- Painting the trims in this world of knotty pine is not going to brighten anything up . And painting the trims is just going to out line everything , but if you like that then paint the trims a very dark brown or black . Good and better lighting is the only way to brighten this type of room I'm afraid ! You could do all white bright furnishings such as drapes and sofas etc. Maybe this sounds awful but I really hate rooms done like this ... it's very depressing and I don't know how you can live with this but this is just my opinion .... sorry I had to say it.

Agree, paint it or white wash walls.

If you want to keep the knotty pine, do not pain the trim!

To lighten up the house, buy a light colored area rug for the floor and put more lighting in the room. Lamps on both sides of the sofa, etc.

Add large light colored wall art on the walls and possibly a mirror to bounce light.

DO NOT paint the trim if you want to keep the walls a knotty pine, it will just look awful when you are done.

We had knotty pine too....painted it a light sage with white trim...huge difference!

I have knotty pine in my house, but nothing like that. I think white-washing the walls would be okay, but agree that painting the trim is going to cause more problems that it will solve.

Hatetoshop, those are great pics. Painting out the doors and the windows would really brighten the room. No trim, but doors and windows in those pics above look great!

I have the same situation as the original poster. All knotty pine everywhere! It is an A-Frame cabin so no windows on the sidewalls, just a huge glass curtain wall at the front. So the rooms feel very dark. I am planning to paint the walls white, but wonder about the trim? Should I paint the trim and doors as well or could I leave the original color? I’d like to leave the ceiling and beams the natural wood. Thank you!

I painted 2 walls in a couple of rooms first, a light blue in a bedroom, a light gold in another bedroom, the bathroom I painted the walls and ceiling white. I didn’t paint the trim. I wanted to only do a little at a time and let it sink in before painting something that couldn’t be undone. I painted the wood closet doors in the bedroom but not the entry doors. I’m liking it and may try painting and accent wall in the living room. My advice is try color in one room, and see how it feels. Your place is beautiful, so what you like!
