I think if you get smaller scale pendants with clear glass which aren't too visually distracting it could work. Will the track lighting be removed? There seems to be alot of lights in this kitchen (track and cans), soI would remove some of them before installing pendants too.

I think you already have too much going on with your lighting and it will just make the island feel too cluttered.

As long as you have enough breathing room between the hood and your pendants you should have no trouble. If heat or spatter is a concern, avoid glass fixtures.
