We are adding on two rooms upstairs and while the floors will not connect, we want to create the same feel as our main floor's 5 inch wide, beveled edge, red oak floors. I can't decide if it is a good idea to do the refinished wood (would shave a week off the project and I've heard the finish is harder), or if I will regret not having the perfect joint lines of the finished in place. We are not doing the beveled edge on the new floors because those deep edges not he planks trap dirt (although it looks nice and does help keep the boards looking nice even through swelling and contracting).
