Selecting a finish for remodeled kitchen.

We're in the process of a complete remodel of our kitchen and adjacent breakfast area and keeping room. We like the flat paint (we are using a light gray "Big Chill" from Sherwin Williams). We are told a semi gloss is a better solution but we don't like the sheen. Are there big risks with using matter or flat finish?

We prefer flat paint as well and it works fine as long as you use a good paint. I can see why families with small children like the cleaning aspect of semi-gloss but it looks commercial to me. Give your flat paint plenty of time to cure before you attempt to wipe it down or clean it.

Deborah, thanks for the prompt response. We will go with the flat paint. Is Sherwin Williams considered a good paint or should we go with Benjamin Moore? Any other brands we should consider?

We have had better luck with Sherwin Williams and we only use their upper end paints. We like to buy the paint to ensure we get the quality level that we promise to customers. We like their ProClassic for trim (semi-gloss) and Cashmere for walls.
