Have you considered a collage of smaller pieces? A big piece of art can be a big commitment. Here are a couple of good examples:

Large photograph. Go buy one on etsy. It'll be a great focal point.

I also think that it would look great to put the tv on the large wall in a pretty cabinet, then artwork or a mirror over the fireplace.

I'd leave the TV where it is, and install either a collage wall (which is way easier that it sounds- I bought a whole bunch of similar black frames from target and got large format black and white images I've taken from shutter fly, and voila- it's a big pretty wall!) or if you prefer one big thing on the wall, consider having a framed mirror installed. You could use a double-vanity sized mirror and it would fill the space without competing with the fireplace for attention.

A great resource for large scale prints is Gallery Direct in Austin, Tx. I have used them for redecorating two restaurants with great results. You can also have them blow up action shots of family members....or all of you...from photo you have taken. Since it is a family room, you might want to personalize it with such photos. Or is you have older family photos that would work up into black and white , you could use those too. Hope art is your solution.

Looks like you have something behind the sofa. Could you center that on the wall and place a rustic starburst mirror above it?

If you don't move the tv, then definitely something round. Everything else in the room is square.

Meagan Gumpert, in Ocala FL, does beautiful ceramic sculpture installations for large walls. She does custom work and it is lovely.

I have to agree with some of the other posts, art would look great on that wall. Either one large piece or a maximum of four in the same frame style or canvas size.

An old window... perhaps painted a shade darker than your room, or pick up another color in the room. You could put a wreath on it also to give it dimension. Or a large wall clock....

Definitely take the TV off the fireplace. It interferes with the beauty and purpose of the fireplace. Move the furniture a bit and use that wall for the TV. Other than that, love the furniture so far.

Tv should be moved, yellow paint should be changed, Place a console under the tv on the baln wall. Change the mantle to something that is more bold. The white tiny mantle looks odd against the rock wall. Too many pillows on sofa and way too matchy with the ottoman.

You wanted to align your seating to the fireplace which is reasonable if it's the focal point. If you orient your furniture to the blank wall with the television placed there, it's hard to see what that does to the balance of the room without seeing the entire room. As a dyed-in-the-wool bibliophile, I always feel you can't go wrong with bookcases, built-ins, covering the entire wall, top to bottom. Keep the back open for depth with a stain to match the fireplace on the wood. You could nest the flat screen in the shelves. Put something lively on the fireplace, color or bling.

The mantle is limestone, not white... I'm going to move the tv on a console and put a big round mirror above the mantle... Anyone know where I can find a mirror like this one?

I also moved the couches to square up around the wall...

You need something natural to offset the harshness of the fireplace and create some mystery.

I like the original arrangement better than the updated one. The new one is to straight and boxy. It is irritating to the eye. The other sans maybe a few of pillows is more appealing.

According to what I see in the pictures, I would suggest placing the sofa parallel to the tv/fireplace. I would add a side chair in the corner of the room to the right of the console table, coordinate the side chair with the fireplace and existing sofa. Paint the existing walls with a different color and add art work to the right of the fireplace...one piece or a grouping.

A big picture with bold colors frameless. Go 5 ft high by 6 ft long. Hang very low. Z galleries, has some. Or go on line to shop.
