POLL: Do you scrapbook?

I love pulling scrapbooks off the shelves for a walk down memory lane, and a shelf full of photo albums or scrapbooks is always a welcome sight to me. Do you scrapbook?

I much prefer to do it digitally...no other artistic ability in me to do it on paper...and since I take a lot of pics (I looooove taking pictures) thanks to my dslr, so it's much easier for me to do it on the computer than printing many pics out!

lol, it's not only the lovely memories I enjoy, it's the back-to-grade-school feeling of paper, pens, scissors, glue, ribbon, etc. I love playing with all the things which make my pictures pop, and make most of the decorations myself. But I don't look down at those who enjoy buying pretty stickers, etc., or doing things digitally either - to each her own.

Scrapbooking is not something I could see myself doing. I'm happier with a hammer, saw and in my garden:-)

I made a scrapbook once, to propose to my girlfriend. Never again - takes foreeever. She scrapbooks all the time though.

All of you people who don't scrapbook should give it a try. It is better than therapy. Its a great way to save memories in a creative way. It is also a multi-million dollar industry. Lots of people love it, I know I do.

I started scrapbooking in 1070 when my son was born. Of coarse the things I used then were not acid free and the pages were very simple. Things are a lot different now and I find that when I'm taking the time to sit down and work on pages that it is very cathartic. Beside the ones for my immediate family, I've also given books to four other family members. Give it a try!

Sorry about the above date which should be 1970. I'm really not that old. Need to proofread...

I scrap book for special occasions. My annual Christmas scrapbook is a great way to document the growth of my 22 great nieces and nephews via their family photo cards and to remember special Christmases away from home. I made one for my Family's Reunion in 2000. For the upcoming reunion in 2015 I will probably make a digital book so that other can have a copy if they would like one.

For me it is a peaceful way to pause my Life, I love Scrapbooking and card making since I started 7 years, ago.
barbketchum: That would be an awesome idea. The family would be so very lucky. xpansano: I also started making cards in addition to scrapbooking.

I voted other because I have gone digital. I have downsized the amount of space for hobbies so it is a good fit.

When my mother died eight years ago she had planned to be cremated so my sister and I thought we should do something to bring some of "her" into the space during the ceremony so we went through all of our family photos and framed over fifty photos of her from a little girl to the last year and it brought back so many memories for everyone. The stories, tears, and laughter was great. When we came home I was going through the book of guests who attended and it seemed pretty empty so I moved a lot of those photos to that book. I added cards, dried flowers that she received and even little mock letters to my three nieces from her with photos of each of them with her. After adding pretty embellishments it turned out great and I thought how much fun I had building such touching memories and encapsulating how she touched everyone of us. I thought wow I can see myself being a scrapbooker....we'll needless to say I've never done another. I even purchased a bunch of materials but never made the time. I think with photos being digital now I just didn't have the photos to do the job. I have tons of digital albums though. Oh well right I agree and think it's a passing trend.

Yes!! My grown daughter and I spend a long weekend together about 3 times a year at a local "bed and breakfast" that specializes in this!! They have tables set up and tons of snacks and drinks. It has become a tradition now. We do the "old fashion" scrapbooks, though I love the pocket pages to finish up after hitting the highlites of a great vacation or such. I can't imagine doing them digitally- I'd miss the feel of the paper and designing with shapes and such for the books. And, using my paper-cutting devices!
glad to hear it, what a great idea to spend the weekend at a Bed and Breakfast, food for thought for the future, thank you for sharing!

I love scrapbooking too! I use it as a "Gratitude Book" where every page is a record along with the pictures, of how much I've been blessed and how grateful I am. Having 22 grandchildren gives me lots of things to scrapbook! I don't get super fancy with it, so it really doesn't take a lot of time and I only use the pictures that I love- not the hundreds I take each month.
God bless you and your family, wow....22 grandchildren, I'm like you I don't get very fancy, I think too many frills take away from the photos. Keep up the good work!
Wow! You are truly blessed. I'm not going to be having any grandchildren but I have a granddog. Even without grandkids, I have so many pictures of my adult "kids" and extended family. Enjoy them!

These days, instead of scrapbooking I just use Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter + Instagram. @studiom_

it is a generational thing....I'm sure I'm old enough to be your mother and I stick to the old fashion way that works for me....actually my daughters were the ones that introduced me to Creative Memories many moons ago, and they are on your page.....but I'm still having fun with it until the times and supplies tell me to stop!
I would like to but lack both the time and the creativity :(.
Even if you can spare 20 minutes to work on a page you will be surprised at how much you can accomplish. I'm not a very creative person but I was able to create some pretty nice pages at the very beginning. There are a lot of websites for beginning ideas.
I wish I had more time to work on my scrapbooks. I try for at least 15 minutes twice a week. I love it!

Scrapbooking is an expensive hobby! If I had more "pocket change" I might take it up, but for now I keep a memento box. It has things in it like tickets from shows and plays, love letters between my fiance and me, etc. It works for me because there are things I can stick in the box that would not fit into a scrapbook, like the stuffed animal he won for me and 3D things like that.
    I love scrapbooking!
lizthefrizz, this hobby is only as expensive as you want to make it. When I first started, we were thrilled to find something in the office supply store to help cut our photos in a straight line, lol. True, today there is so much out there to choose from, but as long as you use acid-free paper, adhesive, and archival type ink which won't fade, you're good.
I like scrapbooks. I wish someone would come dig out of my drawer all the cool scrapbooking thingies I bought over 5 years ago, and make me a cool scrapbook. LOL :)
Having a tag sale today - tons of scrapbook supplies- fill up a box for $10.00! I'm not giving up scrap booking - just purging like Tiffany Spaulding advocates
  • 11 years ago
    @reillyg, WOW! :) I don't have that much. You're a pro. lol :)
I have a lot of scrapbook supplies I'm going to sale in about a month as our yard sale. I don't know what price to set on things and what size boxes are you talking about. Might have to move to a smaller place and may not have a room dedicated to scrap booking. I'm still going to SB and continue making cards.
Markdown67- I went thru all the trouble of marking everything- (cheap by scrap standards) but I realized that only scrapbookers saw the value- so I offered the boxes from scholastic book fairs for them to fill - even then it was a hard sell. I included pic of box
  • 11 years ago
Thank you reillyg as that really helps. I know the value is so much more than you can get from a tag sale but I'd rather have someone be able to use it. Good idea!
You can also donate your scrapbook supplies to schools, senior centers, etc., and then take the tax deduction.
Thank you and I just may do that.
Thanks Nancy- I brought a ton of stuff to the school I work at, but nobody seemed too excited- but Senior center is a great idea, and there just happens to be one around the corner from my school!

I"ve been scrapbooking since 1997. Got invited to a Creative Memories party back when that was pretty much the only company available. Love playing with pretty papers and saving memories. It's a great creative outlet for me. I also make cards and occasionally a home decor piece.
let's hope that with the years and technology taking over creativity, we can still find our supplies to continue to document those special moments in our lives.
Love, love to scrapbook and anything else to do with arts. I have a large room just for myself with tv and fireplace and tons of storage and 2 desk to work at. Though I like digital I feel that their is nothing like taking the time and making something from your own hands. Started scrapbooking in 1997 and when diagnosed with breast cancer it was a great outlet for me. Since then I have ventured into other crafts like painting, sewing etc....
I love to scrapbook and make cards and sew and just be crafty. I have a room dedicated to it. It is still not done all the way but coming along nicely. I had a small formal dinning area and we wouldn't use it so I took it over.
would love to have a room dedicated to scrapbooking, wow, fireplace and all.....God bless you and and keep you healthy

Quick update on my tag sale- a woman who runs an after school program for under privileged children in our city stopped by- we filled 3 boxes of paper, embellishments and lots of bling and stickers- I'm thrilled all those supplies found a good home!
That is so wonderful and I'm sure the kids will really appreciate it.
    reillyg, that's wonderful!

I retired March 2012, so I decided to do a retirement scrapbook. It took me a while to get started because I wasn't sure on how I wanted the book to be formatted, but I got some ideas from the web and finally completed it earlier this year. After the ideas started coming to me it was fun putting it together. I didn't spend a lot of money on supplies because since I do crafting I just used any paper product I had saved around the house. I think it's a fun hobby, I'll probably do another one some day.
excitedt: I remember when I first started scrapbooking I kept putting it off because I wasn't sure where to start. I had some many pictures from over the years. Finally, instead of starting from the beginning years I picked an "occasion" and it just went from there.
I love to scrap. Can't get my room together. Your room is great!

I don't because there is no time,,if I had some time, I would do something else. However, my 8th grader had to do a scrapbook for school,,,it takes forever to do that and of course, we had to be involved in order to finish it on time..Not sure who thought of such project, but they surely have time on their hands.

I've done one scrapbook it was for my retirement and I agree it is time consuming, but I still enjoyed doing it.

Boy I would love to have a room like that a dream! I will be scrapbooking until I can get supplies, it is time consuming but if you take the time you spend surfing the internet, playing games, watching tv, sending text messages etc. etc. you will be surprised how much time you have on your hands, I just put my music on, the creative mind and away I go, get lost for a couple of hours, I find it super relaxing and rewarding, at the end of the day I have something to show for that everyone can enjoy!
