Master Bedroom Layout ...placement of king bed???

We are adding an addition to expand on a downstairs bedroom to have a walk in closet and master bath with a laundry closet in the master bath. The bedroom will be left with one window and we are unsure if we have any option but to place the king bed (with potentially two night stands) in front of the window. The second option would be to place the bed on the wall to the right of walking in but that may look odd since it is downstairs and may not be very welcoming. The wall with the entrance also has a small closet. I've attached a layout we did in an app (not perfect because we aren't designers but it shows the basic idea). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated - no construction is started so ideas on the closet/master bath are appreciated as well!! Thanks !!!

I agree with lefty47 above. Quality Pocket Doors last many many many years!

Good for you doing your own design! My suggestions would be to move the entrance into the walk in closet into the MB W Laundry. Us a POCKET doors to save space. That will allow you another long wall inside the bedroom for your TV. Your bed will need to go on the wall to the right of the entry from the hallway.

Great ideas thank you so much! So you don't think putting the bed on that wall will make the room look weird looking in ? Since right when you walk in the bed will be there ? My thought was this is on the main level so it should be an appealing set up when looking into the room since the first floor is such a common area for guests. Thanks again for your help!!!

You could change out the small window to two small windows moving each towards the corner of the room. This would bring in more light and balance the room. You can place your bed between the windows, add a side table to each side of the bed...then your TV can stay where you have shown it. Just remember to make your bed!

HI -- You actually did really well with your layout . Why do you need that other small closet ? To save wall space and not have so many doors in the bedroom , you could enter the bathroom through the closet . Pocket doors also save from door swing space . But I think you should see the bed when entering , so the bed should go on the small window wall . I would drape that whole wall behind the headboard for the softness and the drama . Then just have a small louvered PVC blind for that small window if or when you have the drapes open .

I don't quite understand the tiny hall bath that is entered from the master bedroom. That said, I endorse the pocket door idea, but I'd keep it where you have it rather than put it in the bathroom.

I would put the bed on the window wall and if the window is narrower than the bed, disguise it with curtains or shades to make it look wider.

Thanks for all of your advice ...all great ideas ! The small closet that is in the bedroom is already there and backs into our hall bath (the hall bathroom has a small shower that is in the odd space that the closet does not take up). Our only reason for keeping it is we do not have any closet space on the first floor so we were thinking of using it for vacuums, etc but it's not completely necessary to keep (our house is a cape cod and was built in the 60s so we have minimal closet space right now -hence my need for a large walk in :) )

With the respect to the above comments, I would avoid pocket doors , they get breakdown easily , so may you need the doors be open inside

HI -- @ Mahjoub -- pocket doors breakdown easily ??? please , only if you put in cheap ones --- there are lots of houses that are well over 100 years old and the pocket doors still work just fine !

This is another way to layout your master bathroom and closet. You loose about 1'6" of closet but you gain in not having to deal with the closet corners. I am not sure if the dimensions of the shower, laundry room and vanity are the same as what you drew before. I added a linen cabinet in the bathroom. You have the flexibility of making your vanity longer and/or your shower deeper by changing the width of your linen cabinet and/or the width of your laundry room. The access to the toilet is 2'8" wide, I would not make it can make it less than 2'6" (same width as a standard door). This is something you need to keep in mind if you change the width of the shower. I like Patricia's suggestions to have 2 windows in your bedroom. It would be nice if you could do that.

I have a question: I heard that walls move a bit after a new construction. If this is true, would this cause a problem with the easiness of opening and closing a pocket door? Maybe the walls never move enough to cause that problem (?)
