You are going to have a problem adding trim to your upper cabinets! They are full overlay doors and therefore don't have a place to affix a crown molding to. Unless you made almost like and L out of the trim with a second piece of flat stock and somehow fixed it to the top of the cabinets.... however, this could only happen if the top of the cabinets are flat. As for the color, I would paint the outer walls of cabinetry and leave the island wood. You may love it once there is not so much wood in the kitchen! Or, will you be changing your wall color? Maybe your island color should match the walls?

I am also removing the microwave and putting in a full cabinet maybe with glass doors . I'm thinking of putting a micro above the stove .
