I'm thinking wood flooring..i'm in the uk

That really is a nice room. You can do a lot with it. A wood floor would be a good choice.

What styles do you like? Because I think this room would be well suited towards modern or transitional furnishings.

The current window coverings, artwork, and furnishings are very dated looking. But you have endless possibilities.

I like the idea of soft-white (as opposed to the stark white currently) walls to let the wood on the ceiling and floor provide the tone. Large modern furniture pieces. Perhaps redo the fireplace.

I like wood floor, but maybe a couple of shades lighter than the ceiling.

also, I'd consider changing the front of the fireplace to update it -- maybe a subway tile or stone face in place of the plaster and wood.
