Wow, I see your point -- so dark! It seems a pity since they are in such beautiful shape, but what about painting the cabinets? Warm cream like floor (at least on uppers)?

I've thought of that....want to avoid it looking too "country" and the counters don't lend themselves to many colors other than cream (in my non-design brain anyway!!). But it's def an idea on the list! Thank you!

HI -- You don't need to paint the cabinets .. big expense and a lot of bother . You just need to work on the lighting first ... add "task" lighting under the cabinets and up grade the ceiling lighting which we can't see but the floor looks well flooded with light so maybe that is ok. Possibly put in a sun tube for some natural light.

I also see your point. I noticed that you have one cabinet with glass doors, what about removing the doors off of the cabinet next to it or the one to the right of the sink? Do you have under cabinet lighting? I love your turquoise mixer and bowls!!
I saw this example of back painted glass that you might want to consider. It shouldn't be very expensive to have someone paint glass the color you desire and then mount it over the tile. You do have to consider the heat behind your stove.

MCM this kitchen is not. But it is a very nice kitchen. Add some undercabinet lighting. If you can remove some of the upper cabinet doors and either leave open so the shelves are exposed or add some more glass to the doors like the angled corner cabinet you may achieve the lighter look you desire. Of course this means showcasing what is currently hidden, so not always a favorable concept unless you have beautiful dishes like your blue ones and an area for pantry items. It appears there is a window over the sink, add a fun valance or fabric shade that pulls in a modern pattern and more of the blue from your dishes. Think fun! Best of luck!

Have you considered painting the tile backsplash? You could use the backsplash as a way to both lighten the room and incorporate some color to give the kitchen more of a modern look to match your style. I also agree with leelee that under cabinet lighting would make a huge difference in brightening the room. I would look into painting the backsplash a white or off-white with accent tiles of another color, and installing more lighting. You can also be specific about what you keep on the counter and use counter appliances to bring color and style to the kitchen. This also has the benefit of things that will be used in daily living being incorporated into the look of the room.
