There is a charming house in my town that resembles yours and they have a pink door, similar to Strawberry 2085-50 by Ben Moore. It looks lovely (to me anyway)!

Red all the way!!

I've seen a lot of comments saying 'red'...but frankly it's been done, over done, and done some more. But if you want that classic look, then go with the red or black, they are "safe" colors. But if you want to step outside the norm and make a statement then go with a bold color such as aqua, lime green, periwinkle, or canary yellow.

I would wrap Your support posts and beef them up a little. I would paint the door and your trimming around the door. The white trim is lost with the white siding. Red or a black door with gray trim around the door. Adding a black iron rail on the porch would complement too.

A house should always have three colors.

I am going to have to disagree with you, julie. A home, IMO, does not have to have three colors. Some of the most striking homes I have seen have less.

I agree with JudyG Designs. I think building up the columns would look great. In the photo she posted, the doorway almost mimics what it would look like if there was white lattice work (linear, not diagonal) built into the two side sections. I thought of a yellow door when I first looked at the photo of your home. Or going back to a stained natural wood grain.

Think of your house and trim colors as an outfit. How would you accessorize an outfit that is primarily white with two shades of gray? Would you accessorize by wearing a string of coral beads for pizazz or a chic teal scarf? Think of your door color they same way and choose the color that speaks to you. You can always re-paint it if you grow tired of it, so have some fun.

I have to agree that red, although classic on white houses with blackish shutters, is somewhat over done. In my opinion, you should go with something bright and fun or your favorite color. It's a door. It takes a half hour to paint and paint is cheap. Therefore, if you don't like it, it can be very easily changed! Good luck and I look forward to seeing what choice you made.

leelee posted a photo on the top right that would be a perfect soultion for the house....just copy those ideas....shutters are supposed to cover the window when closed...thus on the double windows you would need a double width shutter which is not the right scale for the house...skip the shutters and create the façade that leelee posted!

Looks like you have some nice moulding around the door, maybe paint it an accent color as well.....?

more ok I'll add that if you ever consider adding large quality planters at both sides of the door...in a flower color already there - what is that? a violet, burgundy? then your door could be more neutral......Are any neighbors plunging in with a fun color? See how it looks and maybe pick a color different....

Benjamin moore Williamsburg collection ... Love it and would,look wonderful with the design of your home... Forget my previous recommendation of yellow or red.... A basket of red and yellow flowers on y our front door will accomplish all the 'pizzazz' you desire! Yummmm!

The door would look great turquoise or brith yellow.

I would be very careful if you decide to go with black. When you have a glass storm door, the reflection from the glass can make your door look like a black hole, which I'm sure is not the look you're going for.

You have a beautiful trim detail around the door. Paint that the same colour as the shutters (I think a slate grey) and do a red door - deep red like a cranberry.

yellow
is commonly associated with light and the sun. Like the sun, the color yellow is very warm, uplifting, cheerful and happy. In fact, a yellow room will tend to make people more talkative and outgoing.

Red or green. But keep in mind your interior space. You will see the door color in the room when the door is open.

Turquoise or a burnt orange would look nicely with the flowers as well.

I have a very similar home and I painted my front door a bright hot pink!!! We absolutely love it and everyone always comments on how "cool" it is that we took such a bold step!!!!

lsemartha, that's a very interesting door picture that you posted. What kind of door is it?

I would say sage green. It goes so well with white or off white and with so many other colours too! I grew up next door to an English set designer turn house designer named Oliver Messels. He used this sage green all the time. He did some houses on Mustique Island and remodeled some in Barbados and always used that green. It is now called Mustique green in stores or Oliver Messels green by designers. He died in the 1970s but that colour lives on. If you google his name you will see some of his work.

My advice is to take advantage of the fact your home is white - Use your favorite color on your door. Any color will work. I hate grey so I am not a fan of the grey shutters. I like the classic look of black shutters with a white house and colorful door. I am struggling with finding a color for my front door. I have the problem of pink/orange brick. I wish I had the beautiful white front you are blessed with. Good luck! Again pick a color you love!

Oh, forgot - get rid of the bushes covering your beautiful front windows.

I once lived in a very similar home. We had a hot pink front door- became kind of a neighborhood landmark and looks great with flowers!

A dark blue is very classy with the grey

Any possibility of replacing the front door? It looks a bit more like a side door, not a front door. Then you could pick a stained door, or color of your choice. A slightly elegant look for your pretty house - nothing bright or in the primary color range, but a pleasing color with a bit of warmth - such as orange/red, blue-gray.

I like the shutters and wouldn't remove them. I also like the gray color on them--different from the typical black. I think any of the colors suggested will go fine (except the really bright yellow) so choose a color you like the best since you have a nice neutral palette to start with. My personal favorite would be a softer yellow because I like it with gray. I like red, too, but had one for quarter of a century so ready for something else plus there are a lot of them, too. Agree with beefing up the supports if in the budget. I don't know if these pics will post but think the door and overhang would look nice on your house. The blue is a bit brighter than shown.

We have just painted our front door Ben Moore's "Colorado Grey" which is a delicious turquoise that does not shout at you or your guests. It really pulls the front of the house together, and I love it.

Im not a big yellow fan, but the house just needs a smile and so I think a medium energy golden yellow (no green in this yellow) would be perfect. like midway on a paint chip. Beautiful home stately yet comfy , style is warm but would be inviting with a warm yellow, that would say to me Hello. Turqouise is just cottage, Blues & Blue Purples would make it cold and uninviting, red says HEY! Look at me , confidence, flair. Color is so exciting.

I agree with Judy regarding your shutters. Her example picture would make a huge difference. In regard to the front door color. I always preferred a dark rich green as opposed to a red which works but it's not my first choice. I don't think you have to change the door especially if you want to save funds. If that isn't an issue then a glass door would be very pretty.

You have a beautiful home. This was my cottage, I painted the doors red, and the trim black, put black shutters too. I loved it so much. Never, EVER tired of it.
